The aunual Industrial Exhibition
of the Agricultural Society of
Charleston, S CJ., will open in that
city on December 3d, and continue
until the 13th. It promises to be
the finest exhibition they have ever
had. and we hope it will be well patronized.

Suddeu Dentil.
On last Saturday. John Logan,
colored, living a lew miles, below
Oamden, brought some cotton to
town for sale. After selling the cotton
and making a few purchases he
began to feel sick. A physician was
called, who administered some medicine,
bul as John did not improve,
the doctor still continued to work
with him for several hours, when he
died. It is supposed to have been
seme affection of the heart that caused
his death.

Let us stand by the good old plain
English. We can understand it better

Meteoric Display To-night.
In a lecture recently delivered in
New York, Professor Richard A.
Proctor is authority for saying that
on the 27th of November (to night)
we may expect to see a brilliant display
of meteors radiating from a
point near the star Gamma, in the
right foot of the constellation Andromeda,
which is now nearly over
head at about 10 o'clock at night
The prediction is based upon the
fact that the earth will on that night

Accident to Col Jordan.
"On Tuesday evening last CoL Jordan
went out into bis back lot and
attemped to catch a loose horse. He
drove him up the lane and put up
some bars to prevent his getting out
again until caught. From some
cause or other the horse became
frightened and came rushing towards
the CpLwho was standing just outside
the bars. He win against and
broke the bars, one of which struck
the Col. just above the knee, break
ing the thigh. A physician was
called at once who reset the broken
bone. The Col. was resting eaBy

result from the accident.

John Williams, a young colored
vagrant, stole a box of provisions
from Mr. John Rollins, and hid it,
but a six hours freeze in the guard
house persuaded him to reveal the
hiding place. Mr. ftollins, at the
request of the chief of police, took
out a warrant against him, and John
was transferred from the city board
ing house to the Hote de County,
where ho will have thirty days to
repent of his sin. Truly, !'$e way
of the transgressor is hard," for
John had no time to t&6te of his stolen
provisions.

It is with pain that we announce
the death of little Mamie McCreight
from this terrible disease. She died
on last Monday evening, after an illness
of six days. She was the eldest
child of Mr. and Mrs. E. 0. McGreight,
and w.is four years and
two months old at the time of her
death. She was the joy and light of
the household. Her bereaved parents
have our deepest sympathy in
tneir great amiccon.
The Ferry.
Messrs. Latham, Goodale and
Singleton, the committee appointed
by the citizen* forry association >o
examine and asreitain the best place
for the location of a ferry over
"Wateree river, ntade their exploration
on Tuesday last They examined
several routes, and find that the
one by the Indian Mound is the
best one, as by going that way the

matter how high the water is; but
the cost of this route, even though
the right of way is given them,
would be^at least 13,000. It would
require near four miles of fencing,
and about one tlird of a mile of
trestling. They agree, though, that

below the bridge, it the most practicable,
as it can be made ready for
use with a comparatively small outlay?tho
road as far as the bridge
being already in good condition.

in our nex t.

cial tax upon its unmarried employees.
