TOMORROW.
The setting sun, with cluing beam,
Had waked the purple hills to fire; j
And citadel and dome ami spire
Were gilded by the far off gleam,
Ami in and out dark pine trees crept
Full many a slender line of gold;
Gold motes athwart the rirer swept,
An 1 kissed it as it onward rolled,
An 1 sunlight lingered, loth to go.
Ah, well! it cnuseth sorrow

Professional CharacteristicsRev.
M. Alscr.]
Ono of the most striking traits
in the character of Forest was a profound
respect for his profession ami
a scrupulous observance of the duties
it imposed. His conscieniousness
in studying his part, his punctuality
at rchcrsal ami performance,
in holdiRjt all consideration of con*
renience or pleasure sternly suboi-,
dinatc to the conditions lor tho bc3t,
fulfillment of bis role, were worthy j
of exact limitation. Before begin-!
ning a season ho went into training.'
carefully regulating his habits in
diet and boars of sleep and exercise;
and during an engagement he always
exerted a good deal of selfdenia! in
husbanding and nursing his powers.
He strove also to improve in his
renderings, not only by an earnest,
direct itudy of the part, and by a
areful attention to critical suggestions
ft o:n every quarter, but like- i
wis? by keeping his faculties alert
during his own performances to
catch hint of inspiration from nature
or accident, to seize on the causes of
each failure or success, ami to ntr
Iize?bo present expcrit-ncejor the fu.
ture. Of the promptness which
marked hialiabits, Mr. Alger relates
many instances and anecdotes. John
McCullocb, wlic, for five years played
second parts to him, and was hi* intimate
comrade on ami off the stage,
speaks of hiui thus: "lie was exact
to a moment in every appointment,
and the tardiness of any one delaying
a rehearsal stirred his mightiest
anger. ^ He would sternly say to the
offender, 4You have stolen fiom these
ladies and gentlemen ten minutes of
their time?ten minutes that even
God cannot restore." No matter
how incapable an actor might be, if
Mr. Forrest saw be was attentive1
and industrious he aided him to the
full extent of his power, and eocour-|
aged him by kind word* and treat- \
mcnt. An actor might be what h$
pleased in private life until he car-*,
ricd the effects into moments of dutv.
nr.d then he knew no mercy, j
On the stago ho was the easiest andI
best of men, and it was a pleasure j
to act with him.
Disinfectants.
It is well known that while cblo- <
rine, chloride of lime, zinc, and ni*
trous fumes are neutralizcrs of the
odors of sulphureted, carbureted,
phosphoretcd hydrogen, or ammonia,
they havo no power to arrest
decomposition whereby these odors j
arc produced. This moreover, is
readily accomplished by carbolic
acid, phemyl creosote, and especially
carbolate of camphor, which act hkc
tannin upon all albuminous substances
and prevent further decomposr
tiou. But carbolate of camphor,
according to Lanszweth-t, has a dou-j
bl? action. While it tans dead i
muscle upon contact, it kills every'
living aporule it touches, ruiI thus !
what is now boiierod to be the active j
principle of all contagious diseases!
is rapidly attacked and destroyed,
and is therefoie admitted to bo tha
great scavening principle of nature
and a most powerful cleansing,
neutralizing remedy. Tha combination
and reparation, in a suitable
fluid fror the bringing to bear,'
at any ( .cular time and place, j
this mo?t remarkable effective agent i
in arresting and preventing contagious
diseases. From deal
bo<lio3 all chances of infection will
be prevented and all alHuvia destroyed
by wrapping them in sheets
(saturated with a solution of carbonate
of camphor.
