hat some doubt exists in reference to '

paying the poll tax. The act of the last (
Legislature says: "All male citizens. /

law. shall be deemed taxable polls. So [
it is sixty instead of Jiffy years of age 1 v
it which persons are relieved of the t
pleasure of paying the poll tax.

State government. Let every citizen who t
knows the whereabouts ot any of these 1
muskets or rifles, report the fact to the

the State armory, it will be safe for cows
and hogs to run out.

week, a woiuan, the wife of a colored
man named James Nelson, who lives a j
few miles South of Camden, and lier | ^
little son, eight years of ago, went into t
the woods lor the purpose of gathering
berries. After going some distance,
they became separated by a hundred ^
yards or more ; and presently, the mother
heard the child cry as if badly huit.
Ilasteuing to him,she found the little
fellow in agony, lie pronounced the
words: " Twas a striped snake/ and ex- 1
pi red. It is supposed that the boy was '
bitten by a rattlesnake.

it has already achieved, will, we dare
say. cause its members to he even more
fully sustained in their endeavors in the
future than they have been in the past.
