For Wardens, J. R. Goodale, A. D. Kennedy, Win. Deas, Abeam Marks. We have been requested to give notice that Rev. Ellison Capers will preach in Grace Church on Sunday next. Our church-going friends evinced their appreciation of the loveliness of the weather on Sunday last, by attending in large numbers, the services of their respective churches. At Grace church, services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Gray, assisted by Mr John Kershaw, both of whom are students of the Theological Seminary, connected with the University of the South. At I the Methodist church, services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kelly; at the Presbyterian church by the Rev. S. H. Hay, and at the Baptist church by Rev. Robert Thomson. By draining bis pond, Mr. W. F. Morali afforded an opportunity for the recovery of many valuable piece* of property which had been lost by parties while fishing, hunting etc. Among the articles thus recovered, were a double-barrelled gun. in perfect order, and the '-Iron man," of which our older citizens have doubtless heard, and which was used many years since as a target by the advocates of the 'Code." Richardson, in which Joseph Allen and his wife were plaintiffs against James Team and Benj. Team, was brought to a close by th# jury finding a verdict of S15 for the plaintiffs. This case has excited considerable attention in our com munity, and was for the recovery of damages to the amount of 8100, the alleged value of a hog which was maiuicd by the Messrs Team in such a manner as, it is supposed, to cause his death. There were sixteen witnesses on each side, able counsel were employed, and three days consumed in the trial of the case, the verdict being as above stated. The expenses of this action, both direct and conttquentla!, will not be less than 8250. Among the Trial Justices.?Trial Justice J. THE undersigned offers his services as GENERAL LAM) AGENT; having established communication with persons of nil classes who may he induced to buy land in South Carolina. It is of great importance that the peculiar attractions offered by our section, to those wishing to settle upon their own lands, be brought into notice. This can only he done by making it n specialty. The class of immigrants most needed among ns, (all others, of coui so, are welcome,) is the one who brings with lrmeuough to buy?even in a small way?a certain quantity of our land ; (theonly capital which v.e have left.) This is easily done, by such a one, as one-fourth the estimated value paid down, will give him a title, and possession; with three or four, and even five years, to pay the balance. This class of settlers, native or immigrant, must be dealt with personally ?must ne convince! tint tiii* country.with all its advantages does exist. and is within his reach. Once satisfied on this point, the rent is easy. They know nothing ofour country, heretofore closed to the outside world, and it has to be told to them. The object of the AGENCY is to do this: to apptoacl; the man?wheresoever he may be? who lias the means, and induce him by statements, MADE IN* SUCH A WAY THAT HE IS OBLIGED TO I'UT F#TII IX THEM to invest in our land. This will give the land a commercial value, and bring the best class of settlers. Persons wishing to dispone of lands should first have them surveyed, and laid oft' in farms : of from fifty to one liuudredstnd fifty acres.? Nothing can he done, under the plan proposed, with bodies of land in block. The thing to be sold must be offered in lots to suit the purchaser. All business ir. this connection wiil receive strict attention from the undersigned. EDWARD M. HOY KIN. Or.mden, S. 0. February lit, 1873. Hkikhences.?Gen. Jaa. Chcsnut, Col. W M Shannon, Gen. J. II.
