THJt SUPP1R
was superb, being one of the host's very
best, and the manner in which it was enjoyed
would convince the most casual observer
that friend Rodgers' efforts were
fully appreciated.
The following were tho regular toasts,
* t .1 T\ 1 1 il.
as announced oy ine rresuienc, ana me
names of the gentlemen responding to
them:
1. The Day we celebrate?Gen. J. B.
Kershaw.
2. The Confederate Dead?Gen. J. D.
Kennedy.
3. The Widows and Orphans of the
Confederacy?Capt. W. Z. Leitner.
4.-Tho Army of Northern Virginia?
Capt. W. L. DePas9.
5. The Defence of Richmond?Capt. T.

7. The Women of tho Sonth?Mr.
Theodore Lang.
8. CTearttoheft E. Lee?Cant. James
M. Davis.
9. The Dead of Kershaw?J. Thornveil
Hay, Esq.
All of the responses were most appropriate,
and the load, long, and ooutiuuous
spplaose with which they were received,
showed that the spirit which ever stirred
the hearts of the Confederate soldiers had
not yet been extinguished by the apostaoy
of the age. Justice, however, compels
as to say, that, in our jadment, the speech
of Mr. McC&ndlees was the happiest effort
of the evening. The private sold iere
nay well trust their cause with him.
We all look forward with bright anticipations
to the meeting in May, and
earnestly hope that all will manifest their
interest in tlfrglorious cause in which wo
