The Survivors Association will celebrate
its anniversary on Tuesday, 23rd instant, at
Town Hall. We would urge our citizens to
attend, and show their appreciation of an occasion
dedicated to the memory of the gallant
men who died for the cause of Southern
independence. Our indifference to it in
onnnoi, be too stronely reprehended.
VUW ?
The supper will be served at the DeKalb
House, at 10 o'clock. All gentlemen, and '
especially old soldiers of our army, arc invited
to be present. An admuiission fee of '

Christmas Goons.?Messrs. Kennedy &
Boykin offer all sorts of good things for
Christmas. Those preparing to lay in their
supply for the holiday should give them a
call.
Mr. W. B. Oaks succeeds his father in
the business of harness-making, and solicits
the patronage of the public. He is a worthy
young man, and an excellent workman.?
We give him our most cordial endorsement, '
and trust that he will meet with the success
which he justly deserves. i

Tuesday, the wind shifted to the northwest, ^
l the clouds broke away, and everything indiI
catcd that the morrow would be an auspicious
[ day for the seekers of pleasure. Nor were
they disappointed. At an early hour bug- I
gics and carriages, equestrians and pedes- '
trians began to weud their way from Broad 1
street to the raee course, one mile northwest
of the business centre of the town ; and, at
12 o'clock, a large concourse of spectators,
from Camden and the surrounding country. '
had assembled upon the grounds, anxious to
witness the first races we have had since ante- ;
b'ttvm times. The track, though not yet
completed, is one of the best in the State,
mid, notwithstanding the recent heavy rains,
was in very fino condition h>r racing. On

might obtain a fair view of the proceedings,
and, on the other, worn several hundred men
and fcoys, who conducted themselves throughout
in the moat commendable manner.
At 1 o'clock, Maj. John Cantey, President
of tho Club, appeared upon the stand j
and announced that tho first race would be :
half mile heats, Club Purse 870, second
horse to receive 820; and that tho entries .
were * r- K. <i. Kllferbe's sorrel uiarc, Iklle ;

man horse. The race was wmi by Hello of
York in two straight heats, with Misfortune J
second, the roan, having lost in the start,
being distanced. Time?50 and 52$ seconds.
Second Race?Mile dash, for 3 year olds,
Purse $100, Col. Bacon's bay mare, Lady
I Washington, beiiig the only entry, '.Talked
over the Cbursr and received forfeit,
Tiiird Race.?Mile heats, Purse $125, sec- i
ond horso to r-eeive $25, was contested by
Col. Bacon's brown horse, Granger,, and (
Messrs. Fludd '1 Cash's bay horSe. Prussian, j
The race was won by Granger, in 1:58$ and J
1:52$.
Fourth Race?Mile dash for $100, $20 to ,
second horse, was between Messrs. Cantcy \
and Ancrum's sorrel colt, Accident, Col. 13a- con's
Lady Washington, Mr. EllerbPs Belle ?
of York, and Messrs. Flndd & Cash's bay ,
ware, Girl of My Heart; won by Lady 1
Washington, with Belle of York second,
Girl of My Heart third, and the colt fourth.
Time?1:52.
Fifth Race?Mile dash $100 a side, was a
watch race between Mr. Ellerbe's black
filly and Mr. Sanders' roan horse, and was I
won by the former in 2:02}. j
Thus ended (he sport of the first day.
Tli E SECOND DAY
was as beautiful as the first, and again a large (
number of ladies and gentlemen assembled
upon the grounds to witness the most ex

This was the most exciting race of all. The A1
51ly, having boa mi in a race the day before,
was the favorite while Accident, having
saved his distance in a stretch that was win
by Lady Washington in 1:52, justified his
friends in stain ing by hiui. A fair-start ^
aaving been att: nod, the filly led until near |
:he three-quartc: pole, when the sorrel be- ?
ran to improve, and pacing her, won the ?
race by about fi y yard-, in 1:57. There {j
verc several qu ? .ter races between saddle r
horses, which vre amusing, but no note
ivas made of the lime. .

At a late hou the large crowd repaired n,

'ay, that they h id been amply repaid fop u

of 1873. ?
All in all, it wis a gala week for Camden.
