Gone.?The editor left very early Monday
moruing for Charleston. Since Mrs. K.
has been in that city, the country has possessed
but few charms for our chief.
The Survivors' Association celebrated
their anniversary on Monday evening last.
After the transaction of business, the members
of the Association, with their invited
guests, partook of a supper, at the DeKalb
House, prepared in Mr. Rodgers' best style.
Our limits do not permit us to go into particulars
this morning.

He brings favorable notices from the Southern
press, particularly in Georgia, and we
can truly say that we would not much care
about writing any better than he writes.?
The class now numbers about fifteen, and is
taught at night from 8 to 10 o'clock. The
Professor makes his lessons very interesting,
and his scholars are improving.
' Tite Weather.?Who ever saw a worse '
* spell than that which was upon us last week? j
Raiu, rain, 'rain, was the order of the week,
and most effect ually did it do its work. The
streets were almost dangerous to cross, owing
to the depth of the mud, and one would ]
almost have thought that several large creeks 1
found their way through town, had he not ]
known otherwise. On Saturday, however, j
it held up, and Sunday was as beautiful a day j
as one could wish to see, though it was very
cold. '
Christmas Goods.?Look at the inviting
array of articles in this issue of the Journal,
and accompany us a short distance as we
whiepcr in your ear the tidings which, will
save your pocket and please your fancy.
Why, the first place we stumble upon in
our progress down town, is the establishment
of Mr. George 3. Douglas & Sou, where the
"old man" buys the cotton and the young
fellow sells you all sorts of nice dry goods,
groceries, fish, butter, canned goods &c.
We see just below, the large* store of
Messsrs. J. & T. I. Jones, who keep an array
of articles "too numerous to mention,"
including everything from a tack to a hogshead
of bacon, and from an eighth of a yard
of ribbon to a bale of dry goods.
Just below, Mr. J. W. McCurry Jiolds
forth a tempting array of goods, which we

an assortment of Drugs and Medicines with
a Style which would not disgrace a city
and besides these, they have many things
k particularly, suitable fbr presents at this gay

Immediately below, the mammoth dry
goods and clothing store- of Mr. R. M. Kennedy
is seen, Enter its portals and you will
, soon know what is therein without our tcll|Sj
ingyou a word.
j Our friend Joe Cloud is just below him,

Wba.t /shall we say of II. Bardch ? He
Sptnks so loud and SO often for himself, that
it is useNs for us to blow his trumpet for
him, and the nf?ssrs. Bauin, just next door,
arc too well known to require anything more
than a suggestion from us that you go there,
and we know you are goipg.

Now look into the Ark. Lcc taking your
pictures. Ban Kirkle.y sells you fruit and
fireworks. Strauss who lias in a double
column advertisement, keeps a doublebarreled
store, one for dry goods and tho
other for groceries, &c.
The Planter's Warehouse and its hospitable
proprietor, Col. D. W. Jordan, invite
you to enter and ten to one you go.
Time and space fail to tell of Wallace
& Burns, the well known dry goods, boot
and shoe,'dealers, of John Goodalu, the tin
manufacturer, of George Alden,who though
modest in announcing it, does a very heavy
business, of Mr. Tobias who has everything
;you can call for, we ventnre to say, and if
not, be will order it for you. OfD. L.
DeSaussure & Co., who are wide awake men
and know how to' please their customers as
"well as anybody. Of Dr. Young the Book,

Of Micklc & Boykin, who though lately
opened are very popular and give an earnest
of what they will be; of Conaway, and a
dozen others, who know just exactly what
you want and when you want it.
