Since Mrs. K. has been in that city, the country has possessed but few charms for our chief. The Survivors' Association celebrated their anniversary on Monday evening last. After the transaction of business, the members of the Association, with their invited guests, partook of a supper, at the DeKalb House, prepared in Mr. Rodgers' best style. Our limits do not permit us to go into particulars this morning. ,i<- ! I. . i Hymenial ?Rev. A. J. Stokes and. The class now numbers about fifteen, and is taught at night from 8 to 10 o'clock. The Professor makes his lessons very interesting, and his scholars are improving. ' Tite Weather.?Who ever saw a worse ' * spell than that which was upon us last week? j Raiu, rain, 'rain, was the order of the week, and most effect ually did it do its work. The streets were almost dangerous to cross, owing to the depth of the mud, and one would ] almost have thought that several large creeks 1 found their way through town, had he not ] known otherwise. On Saturday, however, j it held up, and Sunday was as beautiful a day j as one could wish to see, though it was very cold. ' Christmas Goods.?Look at the inviting array of articles in this issue of the Journal, and accompany us a short distance as we whiepcr in your ear the tidings which, will save your pocket and please your fancy. Why, the first place we stumble upon in our progress down town, is the establishment of Mr. George 3. Douglas & Sou, where the "old man" buys the cotton and the young fellow sells you all sorts of nice dry goods, groceries, fish, butter, canned goods &c. We see just below, the large* store of Messsrs. J. & T. I. Jones, who keep an array of articles "too numerous to mention," including everything from a tack to a hogshead of bacon, and from an eighth of a yard of ribbon to a bale of dry goods.
