A Hard Oaee in Court.
The following amusing scene is said to
have taken place in one of the oourtf out
West:
Judge?Bring the prisoner before the
court.
Pete? Here he is, bound to blaze, as the
spirits of turpentino said when it was on fire.
Judge? We'll take a little fire out of you.
How do you live?
pete?I ain't particular, as the oyster j
said when they axed him if he would be .
fried or roasted.
Judge? We don't want to hear what the
oyster said, or the spirits of turpentine either.
What do you follow?
Pete?Not particular, anything that comes
in the way, as the locomotive said when she
run over the nigger.
Judge?We don't care anything about j
*1? WKof.'o trnnr> Vmniness ?
tilO IUWU4VUIW. T? uwv w JVM*
Pete? That's various, as the cat B&id when
she stole the chicken off the table.
Judge? That comes near the line now, I
suppose.
Pete?Altogether in my line, as the rope
said when it was choking the pirate.
Judge? If I hear any more such comparisons
I shall give you twelve months.
Pete?I am done, as the beefsteak Said to
the cook. ' ' i
Judge? Now, sir, your punishment shall J
depend upon the shortness and correctness j
of your answers. I suppose you live by going
round the docks.
Pete?No, sir, can't go.round the docks
without a boat, and hain't got one.
Judge?Answer me. How do you get
your bread?
Pete=?Sometimes -at Small's, the baker,
and sometimes 1 eat atater.

ti UUJJC?XWJ UiVIO Vi VUWV
How do you support yourself?
Pete?Sometimes on my legs and sometimes
en a chair.
Judge?Iorderyouto answer this question
correctly; how do you do ?
Pete?Pretty well, I thank you, how do
you do ?
Here Pete was allowed to retire without
further interrogatories as to his occupation
or mode of living.

THESE Spectacles are manufactured from "MINUTE
CRYSTAL PEBBLES," melted together, and are
called DIAMOND on account of their hardness and
brilliancy.
It is well known that Spectacles cut from Brazilian or
Scotch Pebbles are very injurious to the eye, because of
their polarizing effect.,
H&ving been tested vHth the polarscope, the diamond
lenses have been found to admit fifteen per cent, less
heated rays than any other pebble.
They are ground with great scientific accnraoy, are
free from chromatic aberrations, and produce a brightness
and distinctness of vision not before attained In

Manufactured by the Spencer Optical Manufacturing
Company, New York. For sale by
J. A. YOUNG, Camden, S. C.
From whom they can only be obtained. No peddlers
employed. *
The great demand for theBe Spectacles has induced
unscrupulous dealers to palm an Inferior and spurious
article for the " Diamond." Great care should be taken
to see that the trade marled which is-protected by American
Letters Patent} are stamped on every pair.
