"Since the woll merited death the other day,
of Tom Lowrey, an account of which may be

two of tho vile and skulkingdevih who have
so long "been robbing, killing and harrassing

are Stephen Lowrey and Andrew Strong.?
The last seen of this couple, they were larking

A Perilous Meassu.
Glorious and delightful as summer weather is
its tropical heat is a severe trial to the vital powers.
Evan the strongest are sometimes prostrated
by its effects. The common phrase applied to
this condition of the body is ''general debility."
Nowgeneral debility arises from and includes a
variety of ailments. The liver is mors er less
-affected, the bowels are either constipated or
too much relaxed, the stomach but half performs
the work of digestion, the appetite is poor, and
the spirits depressed, This is what is ealled
general debility. It is a general disarrangement
of all the physical functions, and requires as a
remedy, a medicine that will correct them all.
Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, is specially adapted
to this purpose Its general operation is net
confined to a single organ. If the livSr is affceted
it restores he tone. If the stemteh is torpid
.
it regenerates it. If the nerves srs tremulous
and weak, it braces and reinforcesthcm. If the
mind, which eve> sympathises with the body, is
gloomy and dsspondent, it relieves (he difficulty,
end soon brings the whole machinism ef the,
body into harmony with the laws ef health.
There is no civilised nation in the Western
Hemisphere, in which the utility of Hostetter's
Stomach Bitters as a tonie, sorrective and antibilious
remedy is not known and aprcciaied.?
Throughout the tropics, it is considered .by both
the people and the profession, the standard specific;.
While it is a medicine for nil seasons nnd
ail climates, it is specially suited to thoeemplaint"
generated by hot weather, being the puree! nnd
best vegetable stimulant in the world.

_ Dear Sir?I feel it a duty to you mid' to
suffering humanity to make public the great
merits of your Extract Sarsap^rilla and
Qaeen's Delight. For years 1 have been a j
great sufferer, my general health broke
down, and I was afflicted with nervousness
nf most terrible character, which was
soon followed by an eruption all over the
body, forming large ulcers in some places,
and attended with rheumatic pains. Tongue
cannot describe my suffering; I was reduced
almost to a skeleton, and had aperfect
loathing of food. I was attended by several
physicians, who rendered mtf no relief. I
dispairefl ofovcr being wellagaiu; but thanks
to a kind Providence, I accidentally hoard of
your medicine. I sent for half a dozen bofc :
ties, and before I had taken three I began to
f.cl better, my appetite improved, and the
rheiimantic pains became less sevare and I
could enjoy sleep. I have continued its
use, and have taken eleven -bottles, and be??eve
I am a sound man again. The ulcers
have all healed, my skiu is smooth and
healthy, and I have gained 22 pounds in
weight. I believe my sickness resulted from
a taint of scrofula. I would earnestly recommend
your compound to my fellow sufferWith
deep gratitude to you.

A correspondent. who ha<? enjoyed excellent
facilities of knowing whereof lio

the Live Stock Reportcr, relative td the present
condition of tho cattle interest! in Sauth
western and1 Southern Kansas; .' *
Good judges, who have had the bout opportunities
for observation, estfiuate that
fully oncthftd of the Texan cattle that went
into winter quarters in Kausai), } vc already
been loet by straying away. or by death, and
that at least juny-half the remaider will die
before the cattle get n^on the new grass.?
While this sombre View of the matter is
doubtleawomewhat exaggerated, 1 think that
fully 25 per cent, of these cattle are already
dead, to say nothing of those lost by the dispersion
of .herds, and unless the remainder of
the winter prove9 remarkably mild, auothcr
25 per eent. will assuredly not reach the
butcher's block.
Several causes have combined to produce
this disastrous state of affairs in a -business
which has hitherto been most profitable. As
I wrote you last summer, most of these cattle
were very thin when they arrived in Kansas,
and did not put on flesh as they did in pre*
vions seasons; owing, doubtless, to the overabundant
rains; which rendered the grass

crowded upon a poor rang# near the railway
stations, in the vain hope of effecting sales.
These cattle were thus crowded and moved
from place to place, without in auy material
way improving their condition, until they
were overtaken by early and severe sleotaud
snow storms of autumn.
Many of the owners, hoping (against probability)
to make sales of tb^ir. cattle, deferred
making ahy Arrangements for wintering them
until the storms were fairly upon them,
when they rushed them into the hands of '
any parties who had a few tons of prario hay
which in inany coses was.put up after froit
had destroyed all tho nutritive value of the
grass. Hen-ve,'we find t-ho cattio dying in
such numbors, in some eases reaching, at
this early day, as high as 80 per cent, of
the number going into winter quarters.
