ino and Mining Company.
Cokcsbury, June 24th, 1872.
Dear Silt:?At a recent meeting in tlic
City of Charleston, of the Directors of the
South Carolina Real Estate, Planting and
Mining Company, the following resolution
was passed:
Jicsolcal, That a committee of five lie appointed
by the President to lay before the
people of the State, a prospectus of the South
Carolina Real Estate, Planting and Mining
Company, and to solicit donations in land or
subscriptions in cash and lands, to the capital
stotk of said company, in shares of one
hundred dollars (8100) each.
In pursuance of this resolution, he Prosn-rvrvrvirifn/1
t v? n ^illntvifinr
ilAVMV U|r^villVVU VUV lVi?VH*i>n Messrs.
D. Wyatt Aiken, of Cokesbury, Gabriel
Cannon of Spartanburg, W. W. Ilarlee
of Mars Bluff, Win. M. Shannon of Camden,
and Win. M. Lawton of Charleston.
At an early day the prospectus will be
placed in the hands of one or more responsible
persons in each county of the State for
gratuitous distribution. In the mean time
our real estate owners can determine wlieth-1
cr or not they arc willing, cither by donation
or investment to aid a company organizchicfly
to disenthral the tax-payers of South
Carolina.
Will not every paper in the State so far
favor the enterprise as to give this notice
one gratuitous insertion ?
1). WYATT AIKEN,
For tho Committee.
Dirfct Your Letters C/REFULLy.?
The postal record says that during the past
year there were sent to the Dead Letter office
nearly three millions of letters. Sixty- J
eight thousand of these could not be for- j
warded, owing to the care'cssness of the
writers in neglecting to give ihe county or
State. -100,000 failed to be sent because the
writers forgot to put on stamps, and over 3,"000
were put into the postoffice without any
address whatever,. In the abovcjlcttcrs was
found over 81)2,000 in cash; drafts, checks,
etc., etc , to the value of 83,000,000. There
were 30,0S9 photographs in the above letters.
Of course, nearly all the money and valuables
were returned to the owners, but much
needless delay, manv charges of dishonesty
etc. etc., might have been avoided, if the
writers of the letters had been a littlo more
careful, and had taken the precaution to see
that their letters were in mailable condition
before depositing them in the post office. It
is more than probable that nine-tenths of all
the complaints, losses and delays which are
laid to the Post Office Department, are in
reality due to the carelessness of the writers.
