Sunday School Celebration.?Last
Sunday afternoon, exercises of an interesting
nature were held in the Methodist
Episcopal ?hurch; on the occasion of the
annual examination and- award of prices
to the children of the Sunday School.
The exercise? were begun by the singing.

Hill," after which a suitable prayer, was
.offered by the pastor, Rev. A. J. Stokes.
Prizes were then awarded by Mr. W.
Wallace, the energetic superintendent,

Capt. W. L. DcPass then delivered a
short but very interesting lecture, which
closed the sneakuur. After another
hymn, "Work, for tlic night is coming,"
the benediction was pronounce.^ by the.
pastor, and the large congregation slowly

Improvements. In Town.?Mr. R. M.
Kennedy is having the front of his store
repainted, whicfy will inake a material improvement
in tl^c looks of the street.
Messrs Hodgson & Burlap have erected the
handsomest sign in town, in front of their
new store.
The Messrs Kahn have erected a very
handsome and unique sign before their
$l.orc, painted by one of the firui who has a
great gift iu this direction. For his first
effort it is a remarkable success.
Burglaries.?The cotton house of Mr..
Geo. Douglas was broken into on Monday
night and some corn and other articles ab'
stracted.
On the same night the cool; of Mr.
Douglas was robbed of about fifteen dollars
in currency. The thief, entered her apartment,
forced open her trunk and carefully
rp.novcd every thing until the mone'y wus
found. The. things were then replaced in

One night last week, the house of Mr. TW.
Pegnes was entered and vcrious articles
of clothing feloniously taken and carried
away. No plue to any of fho burglars.
Runaway.?On Saturday last, the horse
of Mr. "Wiley Moore attached to. his cart,
took sudden fl ight on Rutledge street, near
the blacksmith shop of Mark Sikcs, and broke
into a run, throwing to the ground Miss.
Moore and a chair in which she was sitting.
The horse was stopped at the corner of
Main street.
"Sudden Deaths.?Oh Monday aftcrno'on
William English, a. colored man, who had
been employed on the Isis, died of congestive
chill. lie came home on Saturday night,
feeling very badly, and gradually became
worse, until he died.
John Bowler, tfi'e well known driver of
Mr. L. M. Boswcll's wagon, died- yesterday
of dropsy.
Both of these men were much esteemed
for their polite manners and general good
behavior.

Sunday Services.?On Sunday last, despite
the extreme heat, many persons attended
the service at the various churches.
In the afternoon, about five o'clock, a re.
freshing b'ndwcr fell, just sufficient to cool
the atmosphere and lay tliQ dust.
At night, also, the churches were-well attended.

Hodgson & Dunlap, at their new and elegant

hot and thirsty could desire. We advise
all who are fond of something nice, to
cult and partake. ?
Apropos of Messrs. Hodgson & Dunkip's
store, we have been requested- by.
them to state that v^e were misinformed
as to the builder, and that the credit is
due to Abrara Marks, and not to Mr.
Reading. Marks is a well-known caro

The Delinquent Land Sale.?-We, j
proposed to publish a. correct record of
the delinquent land sales, this week, but
thp Treasurer, has not yet been 6na\>led
to complete his list, and we will be compelled
to wait until next week.
Forfeited 'Land Sale.?This sale
began on Tuesday, and will be contin- j
ued until the entire list is finished, and
when that is done, wo will publish a reliable
statement, respecting the purchasers
&c., as in the delinquent sale.
Tiie Qrops.?From Lynches* Creeks, I
Big and Little, we learn that the crops,
corn and cotton though small, look healthy,
and will produce finely if rain falls
by the 1st of July. From Liberty Hill
and Flat llock we glean the same tidings.
Western Watcrce also is dry, and rain is.
much needed, but as yet the crops have
not been materially affected by the.j
drought.
Masonic Celebration.?We learn
that Kershaw Lodge, No. 29, A. F. M., I
propose to celebrate the 24th instant, the I
anniversary of tlic^r patron, St. John, by j
p, speech to be delivered by R. S. Brans,
R. W. G. M. of the Grand Lodge of
this State. Mr. Bruns is considered one I
of the brightest masons in the State, and |
his fame as an orator, as well as a masonic
lecturer, is well known. A collar
tion will also be served .for the members
of the fraternity and their invited guests.
Appropriate committees have charge of
the preparations.

Horses?.?When horses have been fed
grain all winter, and fcave not worsen
regularly ,it not unfrccpiently happens
that they, have butlittle appetitcas warm
weather approaches, anil when put to
hard worj: oji the farm, lose flesh rapidly.
They nccdachangeof food. If it is possible,
give them a few carrots, or, in the
. absence of these, a bran-mash, sufficient
to relax the bowels. If oats have been
fed during the winter, give a little earn
in the ear by way of a change, varied
with "cut feed," consisting of chaffed hay
and corn meal and fine bran, or better
stillt oatmeal. As a rule, no kind of
food is so good for a horse as oats?and
this year oats are nearly as cheap as corn.
Barley is also cheap, and by way of a
change, there is nothing better for farm
horses than boiled barley. Boil it until
it bursts open, and add a little salt and
mix it with chaffed hay. There is notli _
