C., FEBRUARY 1,1872 Commendable Promptitude.We have been informed that the tax-payers of Kershaw county have exhibited as cheerful and prompt compliance with the requisitions upon them for taxes to support a thieving government, as if their rulers ? t 1 ?1 xl Were men ol their own cnoice, wnoui mey delighted to honor. Out of a total State tax of about $17,000 there has been paid tbe sum of $15,000, and the treasurer expects almost all of tbe balance to be paid within a very few days. Of course, the same proportion of County and school taxes, has been paid, leaving but a- very small delinquent list. A great deal of lond sold for delinquent taxes has also been redeemed, and altogether there are in this County, at least, very few indications of disaffection and disloyalty towards the govern-ment. Our exchanges inform us of the same state of things existing in many other Counties, and there must be quite a large sum of money in the State Treasury. But, judging from the cxperience|of the past, it is exceedingly probable that this money will be squandered ' as recklessly as heretofore, and along in the spring or summer, recourse will again be had to issuing bonds on which to raise sufficient . means to carry the government until next fall. It may also occur that another tax will be levid this year, as last, making three heavy . taxes in less than two years. Snow, Rain, Thunder and Liohtnino. ' ?On Last Thursday night quite a heavy snow fall here, covering the ground to the depth of an inch and a half. On Friday morning, however, it all disappeared, and a dismal rain set in which continued until last Sunday. Saturday night we had the unusual phenomena of thunder and lightning, accompanied by a heavy fall of rain, which Continuing all day Suriday, prevented a large attendance upon services at the various churches. Up to this time we have had three snow storms, and in othor jespects the winter has been one of unusual severity, reminding one more of Northern cold, rather than the usual clemency of our Southern clime. The Comino Circus.?On Monday last, the forerunners of Haight & Co's Great Circus and Menagerie, erected a fence onthe burnt lots opposite the Market and soon had it covered with their bills, promising all: kinds excitements to those who will give it their patronage, and causing intense interest among the juveniles who flocked in numbers toscejvhatwasgoingon. A balloon ascension is one ofthepromised spectacles. We havo seen this Circus and can vouch for its being a first class entertainment, and the menagerie connected with it j is well worth a visit. < It will exhibit in Camden on next Thursday, Sth inst, afternoon and evening. Our friend Armstrong has just received another drove of mules, direct from Ken-} tucky. They can be seen at the Kershaw House stables. On the following day an election will be held for Fifteen Directors of the Railroad Company, and Thirteen Directors of the Bank, Stockholders will be passed over the road to and from the meeting free of charge. The proposed Amendment to article 1, Section 1 of the By-Laws, changing the time of the annual meeting, "by striking out February on second line and inserting April," will come up for action at this meeting.
