The Concert op tiie Wateree Cornet

most favorable auspices, on last Thursday
night. The town hall was filled with a large j
and enthusiastic audience, which frequently j
testified its pleasure by loud encore*. Cor- j
sidoring the fact that the Hand had but a j
very short time iu which to practice, the j
perforniauce was very creditable and more ';
than satisfied the expectations of?heir friends.
Poniuniarily a'so, the performance was a
success, since after tlic payment of all expenses
the Band reatixcu eighty five dollars,
which they duly transmitted in payment lor
their instruments. The ladies of the Presby-.
terian church furnished the refreshments on ;
the occasiou, after the performance of the j
Rand had concluded, and when we left they '
were doing a lively business in dispensing 1
the palatable edibles.

of the Court of General Sessions on
Tuesday morning. His Honor Judge Melton ;
instructedthc Craud Jury as to their duties
in finding on the bills of indictment to be 1
given by the Solicitor, and sent them to their
room.

The petit jurors were called and all answerd
to their nauics with their exception of
two or three who were not to be found within
the County. The Judge then discharged
the petit jurors until next Monday week, to
which time the Co^rt was adjourned.
We were sorry to sec that Mr. Talley was
not able to attend the present term of Court,
but his position was filled by James M. Davis,
Esq. who from his former experience, knows
well how to discharge the arduous duties of
the office, We are informed that the Judge
goes to Columbia to attend the election for
Circuit Judges which takes place to-day.
There is not, so far as we know, any opposition
to Judge ?Ielton in the fifth Circuit,
and there is no doubt of his re-clcction, for
we, and all others intcrescd in the dispensation
of justice, \viil no doubt fipll very gratiful,
as Judge Melton'has performed the
duties of his office with signal ability, itnpartaility,
and satisfaction to suitors.

. A boss barber in Springfield Mass. tells the
following rather amusing story concerning
two of his employees: One of them applied
at a boarding house for board. His application
was granted and just as he was leaving,
congratulating himself upon having obtained
a home, he was asked what his business was>
he replied "I am a barber, lie was then
told that their class of boarders wfire not
wanted, and he left, although his employer
offered to be responsible to the boarding
house to the amount of his work mans bill and
for his behavior. The other barber hearing
the result of his companion's visit won( to
the s tine phicc and made a similar request.?
On being asked his business he stated that he
was an i;arlist," he might have added tonsorial.
but he didn't, and was immediate!} installed
into a place at the table an d given otic of
the best rooms in the house.

There is a younggirl in Virginia who wears
four bullets made in the form of a Maltese
cross, which were extracted from the bodies

years. Villages and farm houses all present
