THE CROPS.Our
reports from the various par's
of our Distiiet arc favorable for the
corn crop. In sonic localities it is represented
as unusually fine, while in other*,
it is said to bo rather backward,
but of vigorous and healthy growth.?
With good seasons, the crop will be
fine.
The cotton 13 represctHcu as ?r<mu
throughout the District. Wo have on
our table, bliKirns front several plants
tions, some of them gathered on Ft Mat
last.
Maj. ADAMS, on Tuesday sent us a
stalk, on which there arc a number o!
blooms and bolls, one of the latter half
prown. The Major lets about an acre
of cotton, of which this is a fair sample.
This is merely an ?xpcriniental acre.
The seed were planted in a hot bed, and
removed to their place in the field by
Ellekbe's Transplanter.
REVENUE SEIZURE.
Mr. Goss, the Collector of Internal
Revenue seized a tin in her of boxes of
unstamped tobacco from a c ut pie of
traders one day last Week. They had
encamped in the ou'skirts of the town,
where they were waited on by Mr. Rich
ARD80N, who, after making empirics
about their stock ami finding they Ind
a part of their load stamped, ictirmd
to town. 1 >utin<r hi* al-sonec ili-v
changed their loading, putting all tlic
unstamped boxes into one wagon with
which.one of the party decamped, leaving
the other wagon with the stamped
boxes in charge of the other. After a
pursuit of some four miles, the wagon
Was found secreted in a pine thicket,
and taken possession of, the driver having
escaped with his team. The driver
of the other team made good his escape
while pursuit was made after his copartner.
Evaders cfthe Revenue laws will do
well to give Camden a wide berth in
their travels.
HOT WEATHER.
On the 27th and 28?h ulr., the Thermometer
stood at nincty-6ve degree,
and ou the 30th., at ninety-seven?the
hottest weather we have experienced at
this place fur many years past.
