? - POETKY. From the New Orleans Times HEAVENWARD.; From tie MS. poems of the late-Edward FMorebead. Fetter not thy heart to earth, All its joys are false and vain? Seek a prize of greater worth, Such as life deserves to gain. What is fame or great renown. Save a pnssing breath of air: When you've won its gohlen crown, Something still is wanting there. Would you catch the flow of wealth ? Live in high and gorgeous state? Pampered out of peaeo and health ? Envied by the proud and great ? All thy coffers grimly hold. Cannot chase a shade of gloom; All thy horde of shining gold, Cannot save thee from the t ?mb. Higher, then, uplift thine eyes Gathering treasure rich and rare, Which theangels in the skies With thy soul to heaven shall benr. Kindly acts to those who bend 'Neath the weight of grief and care; Gentle words whose sound shall send Peace and comfort everywhere. Striving ever after Him Wtin thp aocrpil le-son cave. How to turn aside from sin, Gaining victory o'er the grave. Envying not the rich and great ; Pitying e'er the weak and low i Satisfied with thy estate, Whatso'er afflictions blow. ' ' Thus when death, with stealthy stride, Stant.s before thee dark and stern ; Like a breath thy soul shall glide On to where God's lanterns burn. U. S, Prison, JV. 0., July 11, 1864. A Child Cabmed Away by ai Eagle.?The Quincy (Illinois) Her s aid says: "One of the most startling events that has disturbed the calm ncss of our citizens occurred on Apri 10. A lady with her babe had beer walking near the river, and for sonn cause the child was left alone for : few moments, in which time an eagle which had been observed, but no dreamed of as dangerous, screeoning bore awav the babe. The mothei rushed toward the child, but too lat< to nrevent the eajrle from carrying "I w it off. The anxious crowd watchec its course till it was lost to sight.? Two men immediately started in i slciff across the river in the dircctioi of its track, hut of course they wen unable to follow it any distance, nn< nothing has since been heard of th< infant thus taken away in the morn ingoflife, and its fate is enshrouds in mystery. We are unable to lean the name of the mother or her history but her mental condition can be im agincd. Those who saw the eagl say it was of a gray species." Tiie Articles Dead.?The Wash ington Republican says: "It seem to be admitted in the best informer circles that the impeachment is at ai end, and though there are ten article which have not yet been voted on, i is understood that each and all o them will lack the required two-thirds and that all of them will be dismisse< annrt olinll orvoin or\r\vAno n 11 ^ 11 i u v ?ui u otmik w?? t v?? v In saying this, we but chronicle th opinion of those who seem to he bes informed upon the question of th situation." Fine Wheat.?The most promis ing wheat we have ever seen, is i forty a-rc field on the farm of Col Asher Harman, about five ?niles fron town. The very sight of it make one think of bread in abundance The Colonel is congratulated on a! sides, and judges say he will maki over thirty-five bushels to the acre So much for beinji a good farmer.
