IX MEMOBIAM.
On Thursday, the 24th ult., we were colled
upon to pay the last tribute of respect and
lay beneath the sod another nmVtyr to the
Southern cause, in the person of Geouge G.
Young, Jr. While gallantly battling for independence
on the memorable !10ih of May.
lStJ4, he received a wound in the arm, near
the shoulder, rendering amputation necessary,
and from the effects of which he never'
recovered. Gradually his health declined,
his flesh wasting away. Early in the winter^
it was thought advisable to visit Florida, and
a hope indulged that the mild climate of that
State might prove beneficial to his health, but
alas, Death had marked him for his own, and
it was but too apparent that his earthly pilgrimage
was soon t<j come to a close. With a
strong desire to die among the loved ones at
home, he set out on his return, and arrived
but a few hours before bis Maker took lu'i^
to Himself. lie was calm and composed, and
died almost without a struggle.
As a soldier, he was faithful and brave?
as a gentleman, high-minded and honora'ble?
as a companion pleasant and agreeable, and
as a friend, true and steadfast.
