Washington, Dec. 17.
In Congress tlie Committee on Military Affairs
reported a bill to refund to South Carolina
the advances made on account of the Flori'
da war. And also a bill to establish a Western
Armory. The death of Mr. Harmanson,
late a Representative from Louisiana, was
then announced, and both Houses adjourned.
President Fillmore, with his Cabinet, and
Mr. Clay, Gen. Scott, and 3000 others were
present at Jenny Lind's concert last night. The
receipts amounted to 818,000.
Colombia, Dec. 18.
R. Rarnwell Rhett has been elected Senator
on the 4th ballot. On the 2d ballot the vote
was for Rhett, G5; Hammond, 48; Barnwell, 28;
Woodward, 1. On the 4th ballot, Rhett, 97;

remanded to the people.
The special election for Representative in
Richland District has resulted in the election of

The C'rptice Daughter of Mrs. White. ?The
St Louis Republican publishes the circular of
the Commissioner of Indian Affairs addressed
to D. D. Mitchell, Superintendent of Indian Affairs.
at St Louis, apprizing him that a reward
of one thousand dollars is offered by the Indian
Bureau for the recovery of the daughter of the
late J. M. White.
The Commissioner states that Congress havi?g
appropriated fifteen hundred dollars for the
redemption of this child, he is anxious that the
money shall be so expended as to give full et
feet to the benevolent intention of that body.
"From the latest information received upon
the subject," he says, "it is believed that she
yet remains in captivity among the Apaches
proper, or that mixed band termed "Iacellares,"
which for years past, have infested the vicinity
of San Fernandez de Taos, the country between
it and Bent's Fort, a"d the Santa Fe
road near the settlement of new Mexico; yet it
is possible she may have been sold by her captors
to Indians of some other tribe. She is now
about three years of age.
It is to be hoped that the benevolent design
of Consress may be accomplished by the dis
t covery and ransom of this child at an early

ures as showing the number of hogs arrived
daring the past week :

time in this city, including the house at Jeffbrsonville,
is about 92,000 head. The intensely
cold weatherhas very much retarded operations.
Only about one-half the number has been killed.
We quote the range of the market at 3,00
to 84. Green meats and lard have an advancing
tendency. Mess pork is firm at 811."

12th, sayg:
"The free-soilers had another caucus last
night, at which, I presume, Giddings had to un-;
dergo a severe chastisement for his premature
speech against the^ugitive slave bill, when Mr. i

loose the first thunder. The fact is every one ,
of the clioue wants to be at the head, and they [
swell with envy when one of the number oh- j
tains a little more notoriety than another.?
From present indications we shall see some 1
amusing dflings next week. The other Ohio j
member states that notwithstanding the tirade
of Giddings, the law will be carried out by the
great body of the people of that State."

residence of vrs. Jemima Ingrem, dec'd., all that
valuable and productive Tract of Land, belonging
to said deceased, containing about five hundred
and fifty acres, more or less, situate oil the head
waters of Beaver creek, and on botli sides the Beaver
creek road to Camden, bounded by lands of
Samuel Spence, John Isom, James R. Bennett and
others. About 300 acres is in woods, the balance
cleared, but not worn out or even exhausted. It
is regarded by competent judges as strictly prime
cotton Land. The situation is healthy and the
neighborhood a good one. There is also a good
seat for an overshot mill on the same.
