The quotations for Cotton aru- the same as j .
reported on the 26th ult: Fair Uplands and j
Mobile, 8<1; Fair Orleans, 8 1-4. The sales of 11
the four days amounted to 20,000 bales, of j ^
which 8000 were taken bv exporters, and 8000 '
on sjjeculation, consisting of about equal quan- j
tities of American, Brazil and Surats. The i

A heavy storm has I vet) prevailing at New i'
York and this city to-day. Much damage it is! j
feared occurred to the shipping on the coast, i
Seven men belonging to a canal boat, and the j

of the romance writer, the numerous homages j n

faithful servant enumerates with the most scru-1 f
pulous care. Everywhere may he seen gold, j
silver, silk, velvet, and soft carpets. Every-!
where taste and art tax their ingenuity in a : \
thousand ways to produce effect, ornament, and ' *
domestic enjoyment. J
A vast drawing room, furnished and decora- ?
ted with all imaginable eare, exactly reproduces 1
that of one of the heroines of romance of M.
Eugene Sne; and there have been -aired on ! -
the woodwork of a Gothic mantlepiece medallions
representing the Magdeleine falling at the
feet, of our Saviour, who tells her that tier sins
will be forgiven her, because her love has been J
strong. An immenso looking glass connects ji
this saloon with a green house, tilled with ex- j c
otic shrubs and trees, and it is lighted at night I <J
with maguificent lustres. The walls are rich- j''
1 v decorated, and gold and silver iish are seen j
swimming in inarhie basins. In addition to \
the lustres, there are branches for loutfirx, mix- j
.e?* with the foliage of the tree* and plants, to '
irenmm- the effect when the place is lighted up. i
A small gallery,lined with odoriferous plants, j

horses, one of which has his name, "Paralox,"
marked over his stall. The wood work

of brass ornaments. Near this place is a

Ditizen Gugeae Sue, the famous "Good Lady:"
