A letter from London to the Philadelphia North
American, dated June 14, says:
" When this letter reaches you, Lopez, his expe- 1
dition, and Cuba may be forgotten in the United
States, and other affairs may be uppermost I can
^assure you however, that, secret as are all the
movements of the British Government, some very
important measures are about to be submitted by
j&ngland to more than one European nation, having
for their object certain checks on the grasping
and growing ambition, as it is termed, of the United
States, as - Government and as a people."

The "Southern Argus," an ably edited journal,
published in Norfolk, Va., speaks of the
letter recently addressed by Gen. Wallace of this
State to his constituents, in the following complimentary
language:

of the first Congressional District of South
Carolina, has lately addressed to his constitu
onts au interesting and able letter on the absorbing
topic of the day. The sentaments it
expresses are worthy of the noble son and representative
of that brave and gallant State ?
-worthy of the better days of the Republic, and
worthy of the earnest attention of every man
who valnes the liberty Snd institutions of the
8?wth. We regret that we have not space for
the publication of the whole of this eloquent and
manly address; bat we furnish below the concluding
portion of it, which presents in sombre
colors the prospects and future destinies of
ithe South. Let every one rend it and deter
mine for himself whether he will unite with our

20 years of age, stout built, about five feet ten
inci.es high, very black, and a likely fellow. I
suppose he is lurking about the neighborhood of
Liberty Hill, where his mother lives. A liberal?
very liberal reward will be paid for his apprehension
and delivery to tne, 12 miles above Camden,
or for his confinement in the jail at Camden.
