In Germany, at present, there arc 523 theatres of the first and second order, employing 3398 performers, 612 singers, and 2340 dancers, 5835 musicians, 143 prompters, and 2070 employees.? Among the actors are one Count, two Barons, and 36 Untitled nobles. There is no eloquence so powerful as the address of a holv and consistent life. It charms the accusing. It puts to silence the ignorance of foolish men. It constrains all to admire. The elective franchise in Ireland is about to be oTtpudpd from 30.000 to 300.000. Plank roads seem to be fining rapidly in public favor, and are being built all over the land.? None of these roads in New York pay less than 20 per cent. A gpreat improvement has been made in the preparation of India-rubber, which dispenses with sulphur, and renders it capable of receiving the most beautiful colors.
