A young man by the name of Clark, who
had likewise been tried for arson, and acquitted
ot the charge, was afterwards found guilty ol :
grand larceny, and appealed for a new trial, |
had his motion refused. He was sentenced by j
Judge Frost to six months' imprisonment.
The Wilmington boat, with the Northern 1
mail, is not in sight.

The census blanks, as prepared i?y the Hoard
ol Census, have been received herefrom Phiin
delphia. \n opportunity will soon he afforded
lo Senators to compare the blanks of the Census
Board with those of the Census Committee;
and it will be readily ascertained that the former
are manifestly superior for the purposes in view.
The variations between the two plans are so
slight as to induce the belief that the plans pro
posed by the Board were the model of those ro
commended liy the Census Committee.
It is to he regrellrd that the subject has been
reopened in t he Senate. The object of the
appointment of the Census board, with full
powers to prepare and print blanks, was to take
the subject out of Congress, where it must nee
essarily lead to endless debate.

Tlic South Carolina Kail Road.
On and after the 13th February, 1850, Freight
Trains for the accommodations of Way Stations
above Branchville, will leave the Mary Street
Depot at daylight on the morning of Monday in
earn week. Ail Goods and commodities for thesp
Stations must be delilivered at the Depot on Tuesday
preceding.
Returning, the Trains will leave Hamburg, Columbia
and Camden, immediately alter the Passenger
Trains on Friday morning. Cotton and
other heavy produce must be at these Stations on
Wednesday preceding; light articles will be re
ceived on Thursday.
For Stations below Branchville, a Freight Train
will leave the Mary-street Depot on the mornings
of Tuesday and Friday, and return the same days.
Frieght for these Trains must be at the Stations
tl>e day preceding.
Persons desirous of availing of these Trains, will
please send notice to this office of the quantity of
Cotton, &c. to be despatched from the Stations, by
letter, directed to the Agent of Transportation.
