Philadelphia. June 1st. 1819.
Dr. J. N. Keeler: Dear Sir?1 received your note this
morning asking for information as to the distribution ]
made of the package of Cordial yon put into my posses
don while in command of the tTnited States Transpor
Inring the Mexican War. According to your directions t
part was distributed in Vera Cruz, five other I kept for tin
use of my seamen and others011 hoard, believing 1 shouh
have use for it as I had on hoard frequently from one ti
three hundred persons, and that many on leaving iUcxici
would ho on the sic.k list. Such was tiw fact. Dysentery
Diarrhoea etc. extensively prevailed. I used the Oordia
freely and not in a single instance do I recollect of its hav
ing failed to completely cure. My own crew would oftei
he attacked with Diarrhoea. Dysentery, peculiar to nearl;
all after getting on shore and eating fruit and vegetablesin
such cases tin- Cordial failed in none to cure speedily.
When in New Orleans a fpend informed me of a Phi to
dclphia gentleman, S. Churchman fc'.sfp, was sick with th
Dysentery and despaired of by the Doctor. I mentionci
linving a bottle or so of yonr Cordial?he sent it to hir
and in a few days I had the pleasure or seeing nun o
change and well. I can give you tunny names and testi
monials of the efficacy of your Cordial if necessary,
have given it to one Ship-master of this port in parliculai
(C'apt. Whipple, ship Monegchalu) and he informed me h
would never be without it, and from my own opinion of ii
I think it the safest and best medicine I ever used or hav
known to be used in afteeiions of the Stomach an
Bowcis. I remain yours respectfully.
