\v hich were characterized by the strictest good feeling and harmony. " The Rail Road Company hare commenced running an extra daily train between this and thn new village of Kidgeviiie, for the accommodation of the country people in bringing down their poultry and vegetables to market at ftn early hour in the morning. The train leaves the city at 5 a. m., and returning in two hours titter, leaves Kidgeviiie at a quarter past 7, alI1 rowing time enough to those from the city to take a pleasant ride before breakfast. In the ihfternoon it leaves again at 3, and returns at a tquarter past 5. This will be an admirable arrangement for the farmers who have their settlements from 6 to 30 miles out of town, as well hs to many others who are in the habit of spen idtng the winter and spring in the country, and j " wistfinir the citv every day for the purpose of at H lending to their usual business. T* 0 The American Hotel, which has always been . Hoke formerly of North Carolina, j i The appearance of the building is extremely i rImposing and tasteful. The arrangements are Sn good taste, and I may mention as one of the jgreatest improvements, which the improvement | In the morals of the age has brought about? there is no sign of a bar room, in sight, to of- | fend the alfactortes of passers by. Liquors are | kept for the accommodation of those who de- , sire to receive this species of hospitality, but | they are put far out of sight. This is at least ' , ^'ohe step towards reform in this department in t public house keeping. POLITICAL IXTELLIGENT.E. j Roxk.?The intelligence is, that Pope Pius, 5" ?*n baring beard of the resistance offered by the 1 s ' : Roman people to the French troops, is said to h *w'" hare declared that he would not return to Rome " at Mich a price, and is reported to have, sent a message to General Oudinot, a< well as to the King of Naples, to persuade them to withdraw their forces and retire. In tho interval, Gen. J j Oudinot has heen reinforced with a fresh sup- i r ply of 20,000 troops, and has a large and well | appointed army under his command. ! i On the other side the Roman people are an- j t imated by the mn?t intense enthusiasm, and > 1 should an attempt lie made to get possession of j the city by bombarding, and then storming, the j courage of the people who will be protected by fmrrirades, will render the capture of the city no easy task. ' These causes rendpr the invading troops by ho means certain of success, even should the , effort be made. There have already marched, through Wallachi en route for Hungary to bring aid to Aus^ tria 120,000 Russians, with 350 Cannons, and 25,000 Cavalry. Gen. Hem is well prepared to give them a warm reception in Transylvania, and there will be bloody work when the two forces meet. [Not a word farther is said of English and French intervention. The jntire superstructure has been ordered to be let upon similar conditions, which it is confiJently anticipated will be obtained, as a per sition has already been received to cont or it from parties who are willing to take fin i af their compensation in stock.
