Sumter Volunteers, and for giving them a dinner, met to-day (17th July,) at China's Hotel, and adopted the following resolutions and appointments: ResoJred, That the dinner in honor of the refumed Volunteer* be given at Sumterville on Thursday, the 17th day of August. Resolved, That the funds necessary to furnish the entertainment be raised by subscription; > and that each member ot the committee of arrangements guarantees the sum of ten dollars to be applied to that purpose, and that the chairman of this.committee be appointed to receive the money collected by the members and to distribute it as directed by the committee. Jon mon.?-The Columbia Telegraph of Friday says:?"We are happy to inform our fellow citizens, on the authority of a gentleman who arrired yesterday from the spot, that Gov. k. - Johnson was quite easy on Monday last, and suffering comparatively little from his late dan. gerous accident. The patriotic people would not allow our war-worn soldiers to pay for anything, but every aid was furnished them in their homeward Journey, and every where were they greeted with the warmest welcome. This compliment was no less flattering to those upon whom it Was bestowed, than it was honorable to tbQit from whom it preceded. .... Palmetto Slate Banner. r! Fro* Cuba.?We were informed, yesterday 5 by a passenger by the scbr. Cherokee, from Cardenas Cuba, that during an entertainment given by a wealthy Creole at Trinidad de Cuba, on the 4th of July, some of the guests, natives , of the Island, headed by the proprietor, hoisted . the American flag at the house. The troops . were immediately called out, and every prepa, ration made to suppress an insurrection of the Creoles. The entertainer (a highly respectable gentleman) was sent off immediately to Ha1 vana in irons, and the authorities are now busi| ly engaged in searching out others who were connected with the transaction. We under| stand that the Island is in a state of great agi. tation, which may terminate in a genera! rising of the Creoles at a moments warning. John Murray, the opposing^ t candidate, of 266 vote* ? ?umicr Btnnter. ~ -Ssvix's Murderers Arrested.?Duringthe past week, Isaac and Newton, the two negroes, believed to be in conjunction with Harry to be the murderers ofMr. I. Ervin, of which a narration was given in our last, were arrested and lodged in the district jail. Newton confesses that lie with Harry murdered Mr. Ervin. As Harry, had been previously arrestfcd and is now - in jail, the trial of the three will doubtless soon take place. The pursuit was kept up day and night until they were caught.?lb. Wonderful EscAPK.-The Augusta Conslilu tinnalinl of Sunday last, publishes a Telegraphic despatch, and then adds the following account of a very remarkable escape of the Operator. ' The operator at th's station after getting through with the above, and while waiting for the transmission ot a message between Savannah and Charleston, had a miraculous escape from serious injttry. Sitting within three leet of his magnet, with bis wires all fixed to ward offatmospheric lightening, in an instant his batteries were knocked to pieces, his magnet completely destroyed and the winding wires melted in several places. The explosion was distinctly heard in the second story of the same house in which the office is kept, and in the tenement > adjoining. Had he been in connection with the instrument at the time, there is no doubt he would have received serious injury. As it wa?, he was stunned fur a lew moments, and a new magnet will hare to be obtained before operations can he resumed at this office. 1'hn explosion, us heard in the next tenement, resembled that of firing a pistol.
