Probable Ratification ot the Treaty.
On Saturday morning lust, we received a slip from
the Office of the Palmetto-State Banner, containing
ft Telegraphic Despatch, stating that the Treaty had
been ratified by tho Mexican Congress, which we immediately
issued in Extra. Since then, we have re.

seen, that only one house of Congress had taken nc.

from Mexico by the steam ship Edith, which I
arrived this morning at New Orleans. Let..
ters from Mustang''were received up to the
21st inst. from the city of Mexico.
The Treaty was ratified by the Chamber ot
Deputies on the 10th instant, at six and a quar?
tor o'clock, P. M. The vote on it was fifty one
to thirty five. In the other branch of Congress
thm: is no doubt that it will be approved by a
comparatively much larger vote.
Orders have been issued for the calling in of
the outposts of the army, and they are expected
to march for the coast Itctwecn the 1st and loth
of June.
Gen. Persifor F. Smith has been appointed
superintendent for the embarkation of the forres
at Vera Cru/., and he was to leave the city
of Mexico for the purpose of entering on this duty
on the 24th inst.
This important news is beyond question, and

kepi, by a debate of a grarer character than
any which has engaged its attention since the
establishment of our independence. At a
quarter past six in the evening, the ratification
of the Treaty was voted by FIFTY-ONE to
THIRTY-FIVE who were for war. Senors
Lacunza and Rosa, were the last speakers: both
displayed immense powers, and have proved
themselves consummate statesmen.

take up the business, and less numer

I do not wish by those remarks to cast any
obloquy on the- Chamber of Deputies; it has
conducted itself with dignity and magnanimity.
The warmth which has been displayed in the
discussion will ever do it honor; and with rare
exception*, good faith has shone out conspicuously
in each party, among those advorat'ng
jwnce and those contending for war. On both
the question there are illustrious men: nil
defended their opinions with all decorum and
due self-restraint.

In the House of Commons of the British Parliament,
on the 12th ult, Mr. Hume gave notice of
, his intention, on the 23d, to more for leave to
bring in a bill to extend the suffrage, to establish
the vote bf ballot, to limit the duration of Parlia- I
ment, and equalize the members in proportion to
the population.
ETThe receipts of the various benevolent and
Missionary societies of the country, throughout
the past year, show an increase over former years
The amount collected is over one million and a
quarter.
Slave Abductors Convicted.
Thomas Carrf.tt and John IIunn, two Philanthropic
gentlemen in Delaware, who aided and
abetted in the escape of 5 or C> slaves from Maryland
have been convicted in the U. S. Circuit
Court at New Castle,Delaware. The former was
fined in the sum of ?3300, and the latter $2.>00.

The Indian Appropriation hill was then, on
motion of Mr. Atchinson, to include in the hill
an appropriation for the payment lo Richard
M. Johnson of 810,000, being the amount of
a claim against the government for the buildings
erected by him for the use of the Choctaw
Academy, at the Great Crossing, Kentucky, for
re numeration for which, when these Indians
should be removed to the Indian country west
of the Mississippi, Col. Johnson had the implied
promise of Mr, Barl?our, Secretary of war, at
the time these buildings were so erected.
The Senate was occupied nearly the entire
session in a discussion of the amendment, in
wbicb Messrs. Atchison, Alherton, Crittenden,
Bagby, Bell, Niles, Butler and Webster participated
and finally, without any action thereon,
went into executive session, and adjourned.

appropriation bill for the service of the post-office
deportment, being first in order, the amendments
in committee were agreed to, and the bill was

The House then, in Committee ofthe Whole
on the State of the (Jniun, took up the amend
mentof the Senate to the hill making appropri
ntiotis for the West Point Military Academy.
The amendment appropriates $2,000 to defray
the eipenses of the board of visiters. A debate
of considerable length sprung up, on a decision
oft be Chairman, (Mr. Tooms, of Georgia,) that
the several speakers in committee must confine
the remarks to the immediate subject under
consideration.
An appeal was finally taken from this decis.

by the committee, 74 to 72. The amendment
of the Senate was then agreed to,
and the bill, as amended, was reported to the
House and passed. So the bill only requires
the. signature of the President to become a law.
The standing committee were then called
for the reports, and a number were presented,
chiefly of an unimportant character.
On motion Mr. King, of Georgia, the House t
reconsidered 'he vote I))' which the Post-office t
Appropriation bill was passpd this morning, and
an amendment was offered by Mr. Rhelt, ap- j
propriating $45,000 for increased mail trans {
portation between Charleston nnd Havana.
Mr. King moved further to amend, by fequi- .
ring the steamers so carrying the mail to touch
also at Savannah and Key West, and the 1
amendment was adopted. A proposition forth- e
erto amend, so as to include Mobile also, was e
voted down, and then the amendment, asamend
ed by Mr. King, was also rejected, by yeas and t
nays, 76 to 87. j;
The bill was then again passed, in the sh ;pc ^
in which it had passed previously.
Mr. Sawyer moved a re-consideration, but
without any vote thereon, the House adjourned.
Mexico.? It is a singular incident in the his. ^
lory of onr relations with Mexico, that the de- g
sorters from the army of the United States con. t
stitute one of the strongest elements in the in- k
gredients which form the peace party. These t
scape graces number from three to five hundred n
in the city of Queretaro. They are regularly *
enlisted in the pay of the Government, and are
so much the more loyal to their new engage,
meats, for I lie reason that their only safely is in j(
the. ratification of the treaty. If the war be re- v

has given courage to those who have heretofore

the constabulary, aided by volunteer support, h
upon a rebellion got up by the gimp and ginger- a
liread representative of Mexican chivalry, wi I
be altogether favorable to civil government. P
The desperadoes who have deserted from our j'
armies have been able thus far to put down any j
organization ot military opposition to the Gov. t

made to seduce them to join pronunciamentos,
hut their determination to see the government

These considerations induce us to hope, ngHinst
ominous indications we confess, that peace will
yet be made. They support a belief) especial- t
ly when one desires to think that way, that civ. C
il authority is becoming more and more respectable
in a country which has had so much oeca
sion to dread and despise its military upstarts.

Indian Souilieru Vegetable Deobstruent.
The plants from which this Medicine is com.
pounded have been known to and used by the Aborgines
of the Southern States long before the
first settlement of the country. The first settlers
acquired from the Indians in their immediate vicinity
a knowledge of their very extraordinary medicinal
propert es and made use of them, separate or
compounded with others combined. The recipe
from which this medicine is compounded has been
used by a respectable family for more than fifty
years with great sucdess, in treating all diseases of
the Skin and impurities of the Blood.
It is composed of four plants indigenous to the
vicinity of Charleston, S. C. The plants have been
gathe ed with great care by on experienced Botan
-rsrancTihe medicine is now prepared in a scientific
manner, and by a new chemical process of extracting
the medicinal virtues of plants. Most medicines
of this class are administered indiscriminately
without regard to disease, restriction in food,
diet or exe1 rise and arc so mixed up and disguised
tit .t their active principles arc rendered entireiy
. inert or are destroyed. Not so this cdicine. It
contains the curative virtues of the four plants
without disguising their natural taste.
I w'ould now inform those who desire to use this
medicine that it would be entirely useless to do
so without strictly adhering to the directions.
It is not pretended that this medicine shall cure
all diseaes that humanity is heir to, but a few nt
the most distressing ones, it will be found, will
yield like magic to its restorative energies. I

A gentleman in the South ul Europe, and Palestine, in
133o heard so much said in the taller place in favor of Jew
David's Plaster, and of the (as he considered,) miraculous
cures it had performed, that lie was induced to try it on
his own person, for a Liver affection, the removal of which
! had bccu the chief object of his journey, but which had
l resisted the genial influence of tnat balmy and delicious
clime.
He accordingly applied a plaster on the riglit side of his
