It may be' said for these latter, that they pay other toares-T-but the question is, do they pay in the same proportion to their property and income, as the poorer and humbler classes? Now, what is the tax that each class pays? The i man without a dollar's worth of property, who is j ' ' - ? ' ' ?-L! dependant .upon nis aauy.iaoor ior nis uauy uicou for himself and family, if he has one, with an income of from two to four hundred dollars a year, pays a town tax of seven dollars?four dollars patrol, and three dollars road tax?while the . rich planter, with a house worth four thousand dollars, a dozen house servants and a carriage and four, with a princely income, pays, in addition to this, but the paltry sum of six dollars and eighty cents?or the merchant, with a stock in , trade worth forty thousand dollars?or the pro. fessional man, of live thousand dollers a year, but fifteen cents upon the hundred dollars. Mr. Editor: There is a homely adaoe, that 'sauce for the goose is sauce for the gamier."? Let us apply it. -"Old Harry" proposes to raise seventeen millions of dollars en the credit of the United States, as national banking capital, and "the Carolina party," par excellence, make the welkin ring with tire cry, "corruption," "plun?? "pnUhnrv ,if /),? Tonnu for the benefit of the few." This is the "sauce for the goose." Now for the gander.?A proposition is made in the Legislature to stop borrowing millions on the credit of the many for the benefit of the pampered, arrogant and aristocratic few, at a great loss to the State?it is voted down by the party!! So "the sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander." "Corruption and plunder" by Clay and his myrmidons, "stir the blood to melting," but there is no"deeo'damnatl-tn"?no "curses long and loud," when perpetrated by the, days of-the*party when perpetrated for their own aggrandizement. Again?Clay proposes to unite private and public stocks in his "Fiscal Bank," with the use uf the people's money, alledgingthat its proprieL ty is "no longer an open questionf" and the pat| .riotic souls of the party (the wire-workers I .mean,) are filled with horror and indignation.? But-his Excellency Gov. Richardson, proposes a reimiiarSunton of public and private funds, alledg- j iing too, that its propriety* is "no longer an open question,"?and a thousand parly trumpets echo, '"it is no longer an open question." Let us illustrate?The needy, arrogant and unscrupulous few, under false and fraudulent pretences, have possessed, themselves of the common property of ;thc many?the schoolmaster however, has been abroad?the ignorant and duped multitude are : a wakened to a just apprehension of the fraud and Tobbery?.they demand restoration, and are coolly ;told "it is no longer an open question!!!" Mr. Editor, what are we to UnnK ot uus gross inconsistency?this seemingly treacherous profession of principle? Were the party?the initiated?false from the beginning, in their clamor ifor the "great conservative principle?a divorce of Bank and State?" And if so, was not their skill in projcclibs at fault? Did they "not put that ball in motion," with a miscalculated mo .mentum, shooting it bctjoiul their mark, and en ilangeriiig, in its sweeping career, the strong hold 'of their power? 'At a meeting of persons at Society Hill, friendly to the establishment of a Religious periodical ;in Charleston. S. C. under the patronage of the Denomination, the following Preamble v and Resolutions were unanimously'adopted:? Whereas, it is desirable to establish a reli-gious paper in the city of Charleston, under the patronage of the Baptist Denomination, and whereas the Editor of the Biblical Recorder and Southern Watchman is about to discontinue that paper, and his subscription list can be obtained, j Therefore, ^ Resolved, That the present time presents * favorable occasion, for making an effort to establish the'proposed paper, ana thit it' be done -on the following preliminary principles. 1. That, as. soon as- one hundred and fifty shares at ?25 00,he subscribed for, the Stockholders shall be authorized to proceed to the organization -pf a society for the establishment .carryingon*of the proposed paper. DESCRIPTION BERTRAND, JUNIOR is about 5 feet, 2 inches high, of a deep chcsnut color, without any white, of perfect symmetry, great muscular developemcnt, and commanding appearance. He was foaled on the 2d oi April, lo-ji. PEDIGREE. BERTRAND, JUNIOR was sired by tlio famous horse, old Bertrand, wlio was got by old Sir Arcliy, whose pedigree I deem unnecessary to give. His dam E.'iru, (full sister to tlio well-known horse Gulln. tiivOjby the imported Bedford; g. dam, tlio imported mare Mumbrino. Bertrand Junior's dam, Transport, was got by Virginius; her dam the celebrated running mare Nancy Air. For her pedigree see American Turf Register, vol. 2, pago 309.) Virginius was got by the imported horse Diomed: his dam, Rhea, was got by Chatham; his g. dam by Eclipse; his g. g. dam by the imported horso Shark; his g. g. g. dam by the imported horse Silver Eye; his g. g. g. g. dam by tho imported Horse Valiant. I deem it unnecessary to trace tho pedigree of Bertrand, Jr. further, as his stock is ?o well known throughout the United States. Transport, his dam was never beat-' en a four mile, nor never put up in a race of four miles, after a mile and a half; and never lost but one race, and that n tliree mile handy cap race, and then not in condition. ?i i.a.:?
