ENLARGEMENT OF THE
I SATURDAY EVENING POST.

and ha* received the praise of many editors of taste

Our effort* have been directed to the combining o
beauty and simplicity with utility and taste. Th<
Post is printed on a stout white paper, rendering i
*v neat and durable lor filing. It is issued at the olc
established rate of two dollars per annum cash, o
ihree dollars if not paid in advance, and may truly
be said, now tnat it is enlarged, to l>e the largesi
* paper in the country at the price it is soi l. It ha>
all the merits, and none of the defects of the largt
papers ofthe day, lor while tne earli st literary
matter may lie fouud in its columns, a judicium
compilation of domestic and foreign news, with the
Usual variety of wit and sentiment, will render its
better family paper. The proprietors make ne

this country, have determined, without altogethei

choicest tales and sketches,from the English period,
cals; and they have made arrangements by whict
they can furnish these to their subscribers in ad
vance of every colemporary. The editors will alat
.keep on eye to the hest American tales afloat, giving,
always, the preference to the writers of theii
own country. 'We shall still continue the plan o
giving original stories from popular Americar
writers. The well known Author of "Cruiziug ir
the Last War," opened the volume with the first o
a new series of trilling nautical tales. In additior

The News Department.?While it shall be th<
: W care of the proprietors to preserve for the paper, i
high literary reputation; the great desideraium fori
family newspajier, a carefully selected news depart
ment, shall not be made second in interest or im
portance. While every thing of note that is passini
either in this country or in Europe shall be careful
ly collected or collated for our readers, a due rcgan
hall be paid to the character of the matter. S<
that the paper may he with safety and propriety in
traduced and read in the family circle.
The Ladikp' Department will still be preserv

striot attention. It shall be the effort of the editor
h embrace in this department such selections of tin
floating literature of the day, as may be in an es

Such things us may suit that important and largt
class of our subscribers, the FARMERS, will no
be overlooked. In order to gratify, as much as pos
tible, the laudable desire ofour readere, a portion o
our attention will be devoted to the collection am
diffusion of such news as n-ay seem important t<
Agriculturalists, and the population resident withou
the confines of our great cities. The state ofthi
and the fluctuations in the prices, will hi
regurlarly, and what is of more momeut, correct r
given.
We determined at the outset, that while the pa
pereontinued under our control, it should be strict!;
Neutral in Politics, and that as news, and literary
journalists, we had nothing to do with the matter

readers, such public documents, as may be deenire
