13th December last, Dr. Jacques Bishop, in
seventieth year of his ape. Dr. Bishop was a ns
of Pennsylvania; he came to South Carolina a
early pge, and adopted it as his country. He 1

name to?in the enjoyment of all the pleasures i
wealth could give; but by being concornod in
tensive speculations, his prcpeity went out of
posasaion in 183d. While in prosperity, he j
encouragement to every kind of labor. Being
industrious man himself, he dene much for
neighborhood by examples of improrcmants in o

to all he gave advice gratis for years.
After his adversity nt his advanced age, labo
under a pulmonary disease, he strove to turn a ]

AN ORDINANCE
TO LEVY A PATROL TAX.
1. Be it enacted by the lntendant and
Wardens of the Town of Camden, nowmet
and in Council assembled, That an
annual tax of four dollars shall be paid by
each person liable to perform patrol duty
within the limits of the said town, to the
Recorder of the said Town, at the time

Town, which said Tax when so paid shall
exempt the person so paying fiom the per
formance of patrol duty within the limits
of the said town, for the space of one current
year in which the same shall he paid.
2. That executions shall be issued a
gainst all persons liable to pay the said tax,
I for double the amount, who shall fail to
pay the same, according to the terms of
' this Ordinance, in the same manner, and
under the same regulations that double
Tax Executions are now issued for other
Taxes of the said town.
3. That any person liable to perform
patrol duty, who may or shall come into
the said town to reside, after the first day
of January, in any year, shall pay a Tar
for the remainder of such year in proportion
to the above Taxaccording to the time.
4. That upon special application being
made to the Council, that Council shall
have power to receive from any person
liable to perform patrol duty, who may be
residing within the said town on the first
