Boalsand Vessels navigating the Santee
River and its branches, re hereby
respectfully requested to comply with the
requisitions of the 6th section of the Patrol
act nassed hv the Legislature, 21st
Dec., 1S39, viz:" It shall be the duty of
the _owner of each vessel or boat, navigating
the public rivers or canals of this State
to keep and produce to the Magistrates or
Patrols, who may demand it, a list of all
the aegoes composing the crews of said
bo.ai, with their owners names, and a description
of their persons." The same
section makes it the duty of the patrols,
to enter into any disorderly house, vessel,
or boat, .suspected of harboring, trafficking
or dealing with negroes, whether the
same be occupied by white persons, free
negroes, mulattoes, must&ocs, or slaves,
and to apprehend and correct all slaves
ound there, by whipping as before directed,
and thesaid Patrols are moreover authorized
and required to give information
to a Magistrate, ofsuch white persons, free
negroes, n\ulattoes, or mustizocs, as, may
be found in such honse, vessel, or boat, and
to detain in thfir.possession suph produce. I
