AN ACT making appropriations, for the
' civil and diplomatic expenses of the Government
for the year eighteen hundred
and forty.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the United States of
America in Congress assembled. That
the following sums he, and the same arc
hereby, appropriated, to be paid out of
any unappropriated money in the Treasury,
viz:
For pay and mileage of the members of
Congress and delegates, two hundred and
sixty-eight- thousand .nine hundred and
forty-four dollars;
