SATURDAY MORNING, MARCH 7, ISiO j !LT We promised last week, to endeavor to lay ' Mr. Calhoun's speech, on the subject of the State Debts, before our readers to-day. When this prom- j isc was made, we contemplated selecting such por- j tions of the speech as we supposed might convey to I our readers a fair view of the question without pub-! lishing it entire, as wc considered it too long for our' small piper. On looking over it again, however, wc ' find it inipossibio to do either !\Ir. C. or the subject which lie is arguing justice, without giving the whole speech. and we have determined to do so, though we have been compelled, from its length, to di ride it,? The remainder will be given in our next. We hope no one will sutler it to go unread. Soma may sup. j poso from the occasion on which it was delivered and from the fact that no distinct proposition has been \ made for the assumption of the debts of the States, by the Gcnoral Government, that it will contain very little matter of interest. Those who form this opinion, will be agreeably disappointed on its perusal.? We cannot call to mind any Congressional speech that his adbrd d more food for re flection than this effort of Mr- Cu.tioc.v. No one can read it without being compelled to think.?Inhibits, in laid relief, the workings ox' a mastermind. Steam Boat Accidznt.?The .Steamer Camden, Cap!.
