The following extract of a letter from
a friend in Columbus, of the 2Gth inst:
leaves no doubt that there is yet much,
and hard lighting to be done.
" News has just reached us, that a small
party of Indians came over to the Georgia
side on yesterday, a tew miles above
Koanoke, and attacked a small body of
our men stationed there, and routed them.
Five white men arc said to be killed, and
several wouuued.

Augusta, July 29.
We learn by a gentleman, arrived trura
Columbus on Wednesday evening, '.hat a
battle was fought in Stewart county, near
fori 'Crary, about twcuty-cight miles
below Columbus, between v party of
about two hundred and lifiy hostile Creeks,
and a part of two companies of .Georgia
Troops, in all about uinety.roen, in which
the latter were defeated, it is slated, with
five killed?on the part of the Indians
seven were found dead, and it is supposed
about thirty were killed in all. As soon
as the news reached Geu. Sanfurd, he irnmediately
despatched six companies, himself
at the head, with the determination
Of clearing them cut of the country, before
he returned.
The gcntlcnjpn from whom we gain
-this information, also stales that there is
not the least danger to he apprehended by
(hose travelling through the nation, by
the stage route, as at every stand there is
a strong military lorcc, auit goatd* accompany
