Many superstitious customs hare de "

which is now lost. Among these there \?]
none, perhaps, more stupid than that of:
fastening a horseshoe orer or on the sill*
of the outword door of a dwelling house.'\
This is done under a belief, that the dcrib
and other malignant spirits would thereby!
be intimidated, sheer off, and quit the pre-j|
