The Senate hating called upon the President
for information this or bead he referred the
inquiry to the Secretary of War, and he, in
part, to Gen. Scott. The followiog is the ma.

I was, last summer, ut the foot of Lake
Superior, and neither saw nor heard of any
British fort or barrack on tl>o St. Mary's
river, the outlet of that lake.
Between lakes Huron and Erie, the British
have three sets of barrac ks; one at
Windsor, opposite to Detroit \ one nt Sandwich,
a little lower down ; and the third at

stated that the Tunnel had been completed
to within 60 feet of the Wapping shore.?
As 76 feet had been completed since the

' of two or three months at the far hest. In
the course of the past year the Tunnel was
visittfd by 31,000 persons, who paid for
admission an aggregate of ?1,372, The
total amount expended upon the work is
