At his Wife's Grave.
Francis F. Scott, a prominent druggist
of Baltimore, committed suicide at
Greenmount cemetery by taking m rEhine,
and when found was lying with
is head resting upon the grave of his
first wife, and the right arm thrown over
it in an easy, natural position. He got
ont of a car at the gate of the cemetery
and walking np to the gatekeeper, nooosted
him very quietly, and showing
his ticket passed in, there being noth
ing in his appearanoe which wonld indicate
the purpose for which he visited
the cemetery. When fonnd the eorpse
was still warm, bnt such was the quantity
of morphine taken, probably a
couple of tablespoonfnls, that the neck
and throat were already discolored by
the poison. In ore of the pockets there
was found a bottle containing about onehalf
a drachm of the fatal drag, some of
which was also ndherincr l/? Um lm.
the deceased.
Mr. Scott came to Baltimore about
tweity-eiglit years ago. He married in
1851, and had fonr children as the frnit
of this nnion. His first wife died in
February, 1873, and abont a year afterward
he married a second, by whom he
had one child, a little girl, now abont
tvcelve months old. The second marriage
is said to have been a very happy
one, ana it is believed the act of selfdestruction
was alone prompted by a
business depression of which he frequently
complained.

A Compliment to American Industry.
The Grand Niebelnngen Orchestra at
Bayrenth, under the leadership of Hans
Bichterand August Wilhelmy, have presented
to Bichard Wagner a beautiful
Gonocrt Grand of Messrs. George Steck
& Co.'s make. New York, which is not
only a high compliment to the woll
known firm, but also to Amerioan industry.
This is the same firm that was the
recipient of the only Gold Medal for
beet pianoe at the World's fair in Vienna,
1873, and which was also just now
awarded the first prize at the Centennial
Exhibition, George Steck & Go's
name being placed at the head of the
list of awards for pianoe, theirs having
again proved to be the finest in tone and
of greater durability than all other instruments
on exhibition. The Steck
pianos stand thus acknowledged before
the world as being above all competition,
ani afh therefore preferable to purchasers
who wish to secure a strictly
first- class and reliable instrument. *
Stelnway's Victory and Laurels.
The following official report of the Jndgea
of Awards, accompanying the Medal, eliowo
conclusively that the highest honors in the k ft
of the Centennial authorities were unanimously
awarded to Bteixway <? Sons, viz. :
" For greatest concert capacity in Grand
pianos, as also highest degree of excellence in all
their styles of pianos, viz : Largest volume,
ptirily and duration of tone, and extraordinary
carrying capacity with precision and durability
of mechanism; also novel disposition of the
strings and construction, and bracing of the
metal frame."
The report then minutely describes and emphatically
indorses the six principal patented
improvements which have made the Stslnway
TUE STANDARD riANOB OF THE WORLD.
Referring to Steinway's exhibits in Machinery
Hall of samples of hardware, metal frames
and patent tubular aotions, the report further
states:
" Those articlos of composite metal show
the highest perfection of finish and workmanship,
and the greatest firmness and uniformity
of metal etruoture, a steel-like and sounding
quality with a tensile strength exoeeding 6,000
pounds per square oentimeter, as demonstrated
by actual tests. The foil metal frames cf
cupola suapo possess an unequaled degree of
resistance, permitting a vastly inoreased tension
of strings without the sliguteet danger of
crack or break in said metal frames, thereby
consitlerably increasing the vibratory power,
atul augmenting the lasting qualities of their
instruments." *

necessary to dilate at length upon the virtues
of this favorite remedy for all diseases of the

the publio by Dr. Wister nearly half a century
eiuoe, and by the wonderful cures which it
performed, gained an immediate and enviable
reputation, which to this day it has fully sustained.
