A SPLENDID SHIP.
The American ship Harvey Mills, Cap
<.*ui t? . r. Mills, arrived at fort Koyai
last Friday, unci made tlie inhabitants of
the town open their eyes with amazement
at iicr huge size an 1 elegant equipment.
This is the first ?rip of this fine ship, she
being just built, and we fee! a special
pride i t her as the material < f which sinis
built way a'l furnished by I). C. Wilson
& bio. proprietors of lu Port Royal SawMills,
located within a mile of Beiuforf.
T > the uninitiated her immense size and
elaborate finish is a matter of surprise and
when we know that 3hc is the largest ship
1 that cvor loaded with cotton in a SouthI
era port, and that her great draft < f
Wf water prevents her loading in any other
cotton port than Port Royal we have
f additional reason for exultation. ' She
will carry 7,600 bales of cotton from Port
Royal to Liv rpool and Mr. Wilson, Receiver
of the Railroad, has assured the
Captain that he will keep her supplied
with cotton so that slie^xpeets to clear
' in 80 days. She is chartered by the
Augusta Press Company, her freight for
this trip amounting to about $'23,000.
She is 2187 tons and is the fourth largeBt
ship in the United States, and cost $122
*500. She rates A. 1. in the Lloyds for
18 years; is 250 feet long and spreads
7,000 feet of can vas, and will draw when
loaded 22 feet of water; is 43 feet beam
and 30 fact depth of hold, and was
Duilt in Thomasion, Maine.
s .... -
moae of our citizens who would like
to visit the ship will bo hospitnbly received
by her affable captain, and an
4i>Bpcction of her would well repay any
one for the trip.
