should have quarantined the doctor as he

changes in assessments were made.
The committee of the grand jury to
> investigate county affairs are in session
at the court house.
Tlio county commissioners were in
session yesterday and this morning to (
X audit unpaid claims for the past year.

treasuror, as he had collected nothing, no
checks were issued.

hospitable locality.
Mr. E. Kirahbaum, a salesman for H.
Myers & Brother ot Savannah, well known
to our merchants died of the fever in that
city on Monday.

The Republican county convention
I met at the Arsenal on Monday to elect
delegates to the State Convention. The
y meeting was not so noisy and turbulent
as usual owing to a lack of whisky with
which it is customary to fill the delegates
before the meetings. The programme
prepared was faithfully followed out and
everything is lovely. A song by Mr.
Judd, which he tried to learn the country
members to sing, was the only failure.
The I delegates chosen are expected
to oppose Mr. Chatml>erlaln although
^ there are several outspoken Chamberlain
men on it. The delegates are Smalls,
Green, Hamilton, Guntt, My era, Miller
and Wilson.

the Istjinstnnt. Intendant Williams stated
that in view of the prevalence of yellow
fever in Savannah that he had called the
meeting to devise means to protect the
| health ot Beaufort and Port Royal and
enforce such sanitary and quarantine
! regulations as to secure immunity from lt
! the pestilence. He stated t lint he had c
; telegraphed the ticket agents at Savan 11
i roll and Yemassee not to sell tickets to
| persons fleeing from Savannah as they ti
would not be allowed to enter town; that d
| he had written to the quarantine officer u
j for this port and had received a reply a|
1 that all vessels coming from Savannah j 0]
would be quarantined for 30 days, and j w
j Commodore Clitz had agreed to patrol; ?
! the lower harbor with a steam launch to j C(
I protect this vicinity against the fever. ]
The Intendant of Port Royal was pres- j QI
ent oud announced his hearty co-opcru-j ^
tion in efforts to prevent the fever
visiting this port, and that he would
guard Archer's creek to prevent boats
coming through from Savannah. The
Intendant was authorized to appoint a
health inspector to carry out the instruc
tions of the board of health.
