Gilt Edge Flour, the fiuest in tho Market at Roberts.' The meeting at the Arsenal to nominate an Intcndant and wardens on Friday evening was as noisy and disgraceful as usual. A very large number of our citizens wns nresent hilt hefore an nrrrnnizn tion was effected many of them left in disgust as the prospect for nominating a ticket was dubious, and the chance for a free fight most promising. Peter Robinsou and Lt. Gov. Gleaves were nominated and resulted in the election of Mr. Gleaves, but he refused to take the chair and Robinson was left in possession. c Tom Hamilton waked up the boys in a long speech in which he charged the chairman with being the tool of a ring i and that he (the chuirmtn ) had at that > minute in his pocket a Jticket made up ' that was to be nominated, or at least to c be declared nominated, and that the men J who were to piopose the names on the ticket were the only ones that would be , recognized. A great effort was made to e choke Hamilton off, many threats were made and his voice entirely drowned in the howl that was gotten up, but he t stood his ground and refused to yield the floor aad at last auccoecded in driving off off his assailants and finishing his speech. He told them that the workers for the ready made ticket were in a majority in the house, but he would show them what could be done at the polls. The following ticket was then declared the choice of the meeting for the next election : r For Intendant, ALFRED WILLIAMS / For Wardens:?R. H. Gleaves, J. P. % Boyce, J. C. Tom Hamilton was the last , speaker and his remarks were well received until he touched on the admin istration of Gov. Chamberlain, when an attempt was tnado to get up a disturbance, but Tom, with his usual persistance, held on an l had his say out. The crowd ^ was anxious to hear about Mr. Chamber- ( lam, and how he had conducted himself, j but some of the speakers were determined that the procccdirgs should be routined r to the ratification of the National ticket, but Tom upset their plans and paid a glowing tribute to tbe Governor which was well received by the people.
