Tu another column will be found the Annual Report of the Inteudant of our town, together with the report of the Town Clerk and Treasurer, showing the receipts and disbursements for the fiscal year, ending next Monday. From this statement it will be scon that the total receipts for the year have been $0,847.50, and the payments $0,835.10, leaving a balance iu the treasury of $12.40. Among the payments during the past year, have been the bond to the Silsby Munufacting Co., of" $1,020, und of indebtedness of lite town existing when the present couueii was elected of $3,380, making $5,000, which has bceu paid, over and above tlie current expen ses of the town for die year, leaving for cc. ual expenses inruwed nnd paid, $4,605,10. Our citizens cannot but be pleased with the evident healthy condition of the town finances, and thankful for the care which has been taken (o avoid the creation of a large indebtedness. I congratulate you that good feeling ^ and harmony has been the chief fcotuic of the present council and this has enabled each and every officer of the town to fully and faithfully discharge his duty. * There has been a marked improvement T in the financial condition ot the town, tl and at the present time it will compare c, favorably with that of any town in the State. It will bo seen by reference to T the fiuaucial statement in this report that T had this council been confined to the T legitimate cxperscs of the present fiscal y year, out side of the bonded indebtedness t there would have been a large surplus. t over and ubove all expenses up to July t 81st. t It will he seen from the statement of T expenditures that the entire indebtedness Tl of the town including the bonds due in Feb. 1877, and Feb. 1878, can be paid out of the uext years (axes, provided the same amount is collected as during the R: past year. r; vVith this favorable showing n? . n ^ IIIO fact that a largo amount of properly heretofore not liable to taxation will be j subject to tax in the coming year there is no reason why the rate of taxation should ,J: not be reduced by those who ure to Bl succeed us in the management of the n, affairs of the town; and nt the same time uj make many improvements that arc ucces- j bj sary, j Bj The sanitary condition of the town line ! 0; l?een cood, and while the town has been, n? usual almost free from sickm s.<, yet the sanitary condition c.tn be greatly improved by a lictter system of drainage ,{ which should have full consideration by v" the incoming council. The mortunry record of the town has been small and in this particular the town is more favorc<! tiian many olhers that enjoy as to good or better reputation for healthful- j fss. '1 he Intendcuts Court has been one of ic prominent features of the town overnment, and the results arc apparent 1 the better order that may be noticed 1 the streets.
