The Republicans of New York, in oonvention
at Saratoga, nominated the following ticket:
For Secretary of State, Frederick W. Seward,
of New York; for Controller, Francis E. Spinner,
of Herkimer; for State Treasurer, E. A.
Merritt, of St. Lawrence; for Attorney-General,
George F. Danforth, of Monroe ; for
State Engineer and Surveyor, Oliver H. P. Cornell,
of Tompkins ; for Canal Commissioner,
William T. Tinsley, of Wayne ; for State Prison
Inspector, Benoni L Ives, of Cayuga. The
platform declares that the welfare of theoountry
requires a just, generous and forbearing
national policy in the Southern States, a firm
refusal to use military power, exoept for purposes
clearly defined in the Constitution, and
the local enforcement of national authority by
those ouly who are in sympathy with snoh a
policy, and will heartily support it; demands
honesty, eoonomy and efficiency in every
branch of national or State administration
summary exposure, proaocution and punishment
of wrong doers ; the offenders in the
:anal management should be brought to speedy
punishment; that the Republican party has,
vithin the last four years, provided for the
payment of 120,000,000 of the poblio debt, and
>ractically extinguished the general State inlebtednees,
and by this action has made it cerain
that the tax for the next year will be reluced
about $5,000,000 ; that the further inlation
of the currency, under any pretense
vhatever, would be a public calamity. The
ntereets of honest industry and the common
nrelfare demand the speediest return to specie
payments ; that the taxation should be reviewed
that its burden may fall on all alike; recog- 1
lizos the President's declaration that he is not
l candidate for renomination, and opposes
hird-termism ; demands the unqualified maintenance
of the publio school system, and its
support by equal taxation, and opposes all sectarian
appropriations... .The Democratic State
Convention at Milwaukee, Wis., renominated
3ov. Taylor and the entire ticket. The platform
demands preservation of publio credit;
honest payment of the national debt; rigid
economy in State and Federal administrations
moro and cheaper facilities for transportation
within and without the State ; completion of
the Fox and Wisconsin rivers Improvement;
sound currency in oein or its equivalent; tariff
for revenue only, levying higher duties upon
articles of necessity than upon articles of luxury
; no sympathy for men who vote or apologize
for Credit Mobilier corruptions in Congress
or elsowhere; the sovereignty of the States
and the people m to ell power* not delegated
to the Federal government or prohibited to the
States; the supremacy of civil authority in
timee of peace, and liberty, equality and fraternity
for all men under the law; freedom of religion
and opinion; the elevation of labor, and
its permanent and poeitive protection in all its
rights, without injustice to capital; and the
perpetual subordination of the interests of
party to principles, and to the good of the
whole people.

Capt John C. Jones, of New York, while gazing
at Niagara Falls with some friends at Prospect
Park, said "good-bye," and Jumped over,
in sight of hundreds of people.
The Pennsylvania Democratic oonvention at
Erie nominated Cyrus L Pershing for governor.
The platform adopted begins with Jefferson's
familiar address of "equal and exact
justice," etc.; recites that the ignorance, inefficiency
and wickedness of the leaders of the
party that has ruled the State and nation for a
period of years calls for their immediate and
permanent removal from the plaoes which they
have so long dishonored and disgraced; favors
an economical administration of the government,
in order to reduoe taxation ; demands
a thorough and searobing investigation of
the State treasury; thai the nominees of the
oonvention are pledged to apply all moneys
to the redaction of the publio debt, and nnt
employ public moneys In any way to their ow
benefit; that the contraction of the money
currency and circulating medium heretofore
made by the Republican party, and the farther
contraction propooed by it with a view to forced
resumption to specie payments, has already
brought dinarter to the business of the oountry,
and threatens general bankruptcy, and demands
that this policy be abandoned, and that
the volume of money be made and kept equal
to the wants of trade, leaving the restoration
of legal tenders to par in gold to be broogh
about by promoting the industries of the people,
and not by destroying them ; demands
that all the national bank circulation be
promptly and permanently retired, and fall
legal tenders issued in their place; that the
government should make the legal tenders receivable
for all public dues, except where respect
for the obligation of contrasts reonirss
ptjiMDi in ooln ; oaJln for the extinction of
the national banks, and the establishment of a
system of free banks of disooont and deposit,
with no paper money exoept as may be issned
upon the faith of the Federal government;
oordially invites the Liberal Republicans and
others to oo-operete with them.
