<lndieUah?r.
The more we see 4of (Judge Maher the
more cause have we to congratulate this
judicial circuit in the possession of so
pure and upright a judge. The tone and
the dignity that is given to the proceedings
ol a court where the presiding judge
iuspires confidence and commands respect
by the courtesy and the ^fairness 01 his
rulings are no where more apparent than
where the ermine is worn sj unsulliedly.
Bo longaa the bench is filled by such men,
we can feel fortified in the attainment ot
a higher degree of virtue and in the possession
ol a more satisfied security.
The Senatorshlp.
in the coining contest for the Btate Benatorship
it la understood that the Govern"
or ia favorable to the candidacy of repressatative
Myers, as being in every respect
better fitted for the poeition than his
competitor; and suroly our worthy Governor,
sailed {to the helm of the 8hin -of
State %i a time when nought but the beet
etatesmanahip will suffice to guide it safe'
lj amid and between th foaming breakers,
should be allowed a& influential voice
In the selection of those officials on whom
he must principally depend to co-operate
with him in the performance of his dif
fault undertaking.
Should the coming struggle for the
Seeatorship result as we hope and think
it will, in the defeat of the Ring, we
shall regard it as a gratifying indication
af program in the right direction.
- Last Wednesday We issucda supplement
of one column of the "Tribune*1 as an
advertisement, containing three articles
that we thought would attract attention.
To our surprise one article on tue Past
Indebtedness Fond created great excitement
at the Court house, and attracted th e
attention of the Grand Jury, who iuvesti gated
the question of payments from the
Fund and very properly endorsed thu action
of the Couuty Commissioners.
We were never so fully satisfied of the
power of printers ink as when we discovered
the consternation caused by our inoll'en sive
article. We intended to insert itjn.
our paper this week but have no room.
The Tribune will be eularged on the
Mth when we shall have more ?D?ce. till
then our advertisers must pardon the
aaai?doe of their cards, now crowded out.

The Poor riooM suggest* several improvements
which might be made with
advantage. For most obvious reasons a
hospital and poor house should not be
combined, particularly during theuuuimer

should be made to make it aa much self outaming
as possible. Of the 30 occupants
the greater part proteased to have
no relatives or connuuious to care /or
them, still a large number are not altogether
incapable of doing something for
themselves sad the tune expended in running
around could be better employed in
cultivating a kitchen garden for the
benefit of the establishment and lessen the
expense. They seemed cheerful and said
they were veil and abundantly fed, atttt
we think the supply of blankets was
scarcely sufficient for the requirements
and the supply of wood .was entirely deficient
