Comptroller-General Huge wt'j in town
last week, the guest of Lt. Gov. Cleaves,
lie Kccnis like a man who takes the world
as smooth as though it were his oyster.
The Comptroller General has issued a
circular caning upon several county aud
itors and treasurers to give new bonds or
else to step down and out.
They have had a visit from the Ku
Klux up at Miilelt on the Port Iloyal
Railroad. Now the Governor can givo
the "melish" a chance to show their valor
by driving from the sacred soil of South
Carolina these barbarians from the everglades
of Georgia.
The parade ol' the fire department on
New Years day was rather a tame affair.
The Iiook and Ladder company were ihe
only ones that braved tne storm. They >
were headed by a fife and drum and kept
step to the Inspiring strains of that very
dry tune "Liitie drops of water."
Fish. Some enterprising fishermen a
few days ago brought up to town a boat
load of the finest specimens of the finny
tribe. So heavily loaded was their little
craft, that she flould hardly lloat with
buss, rnulkit, black fish, young drum aud
other varieties that for once our market
was overstocked.
The estimated loss by the collision on
the railroad last week is fifteen thousand
dollars. This should be a warning to
the managers of tlic road never to run a
train on time again, but stick to the old
way of being from one to ten hours late.
