It is un instiiu* lion, f unded by privato putiiotism and benevolence, endorsed by the city authorities of Charleston, and recognized and encouraged by the Legislature of t|ie , State. Its great and highly Useful purposes is to sup| ply provisions, lieu of expense, to the needy families of soldiers and scntm-n, lighting the battles ol their country, or dead in her service; and Upward of eight hulldied families depend on Us bounty for their daily bread.
