Tf o bright, blue, October looking days have
passed withont a single a incident of interest. I
The onemy, in spite of the slow but continuous j
fire maintained by our batteries, still pursues \
bis work on Morris Island, laboring as if it was
his purpose to convert it into a Gibraltar. New
and more capacious bomb-proofs have been j
thrown up at (ircgg ami Wagner; on Saturday |
a large embrasure was cut at Greag, and the
parapetR of both forta are rising to a very
formidable height.-- Mercury of Monday.

the siege of Charleston and strained towards

Miramon had been appointed by General

Triumvirate had notified the ieprcsentatives of
foreign Governments that a legal Government
had been provided for Mexico, and they had *
been requested to recognize the Triumvirate as 1

they must recognize the Juarez Government

A Yankee Rebuke.
Tbe Atlanta Intelligencer says :
At Adairsvillo we met several car loads of
ifankee prisoners on last Sunday. A large
lumber of persons wore eagerly conversing
vith them, and amongst the items -wo noticed
vero the following:
One contemptible fellow, amongst our citiens,
was attempting to bargain (in an underone)
with a shrewd, intelligent looking Yan:ee,
for greenbacks. Tho Yankee, in undisguised
disgust, and in a tone of voico sufficicuty
loud to be heard by all who stood about, renarkod
to him: "You arc a disgraco to any
ountry. Any man who does as you have

tune, ouer iwo uoiihiv. 01 your own money lor
no of greenbacks, is not entitled to a country,
fou are a mean and bad citizen." Tho cowrdly
scoundrel slunk oft', and our peoplo applauded
the Yankee. Verily, wo would much
atber take the open armed fo? by the hand
nd welcome him, than to show an actofk.ndic?s
or courtesy to tho enemy who, at home,
educes our currency. The Yankeo rebuked
lim properly.
One follow, on being asked what he was
ghting for, said, 4,Union." A German alongide
of him said, "te Union wash blayed out,"
it- "was vightin for tirteen dollars a month."
ionest Duchman. The greater number of the
prisoners are dogged, mean, cut-throat looking
levils.
From the Weal.
Atlanta, Sept. 23.?It is stated on authoriy
deemed reliahle that the enemy burned all
is stores in Chattanooga and there is no Yanee
anny south of Tennessee river to-day.
'here is no confirmation ot the occupation of
lhattanooga by Gen. Bragg, but it is generally
elieved. Information come3 in slowly from
be front, but what reaches us from availabfe
hannels of communication estimates our loss
arioiislv, np to 15,000, of which fivo or six
liousand are wounded, most slightly. The
jss of the enemy in killed, wounded and prioncrs
is variously placed at from 25,000 to
5,000. Large quantities of arms and baggage
lave been brought to the various depots in our
ear. The army train has moved forward,
ilany of the wounded are at the field hospital
lear Rock Springs, others have been brought
o Dalton, Marietta and allanta.
The Press Association Reporter is in front
nd it is hoped he will be permitted to send a
rue report.
Trains to day have brought prisoners, but no
ie\vs, except that Gen. Hood is not dead. He
las had his right leg amputated and savs he
rill live to fight the Yankees another battle.
Atlanta, Sept. 23 ? Tbe pursuit goes on.
i'he latest report is the following telegram :
Tuknell Hill, Sept. 22.?Seven o'clock, p.
n.?Latest from Headquarters.?Our army is
lear Chattanooga. We expect to be there tooorrow.
Rumor says we occupied it to night.
5rivate advices say 20,000 prisoners on down
rains to-day. A large corps of bridge buildrs
have been sent to the front with orders to
ixamine the rail road from Dalton to Chattalooga
via Cleveland. It is supposed trains
vill run to Chattanooga to day, as the road to
Cleveland is known to be good; that from
Cleveland to Chattanooga is not known to bo
jood.
