What the Yankees Need.?The N. Y.
Timeh meditating upon the result of the recent .
battles before Richmond says: 44 What the
country needs is moro courage and a new
army." They can doubtless get a "new army,"
but whether their invocation for " more cour
age" will be responded to wc much ftloubt.?
One thing is certain, an unbrokon succession of
Confederate victorios is not calculated to increase
their stock of that quality unless, indeed,
it can he made to appear that a man becomes
braver tho oftencr lie is thrashed. Such
a conclusion has neither reason not ekpeHcnce
to support it.

It is seldom tbe the pleasure of a commander to re.
cord the virtues of a braver or bettor soldier than was
George Evans. He was among the very tiret young
men of Kershaw District, to respond to the call of his
country, in the breaking out of hostilities in the present
revolution, and nobly did he discharge his duty.
Through the various actions in which his company was
engaged, George Evans was always present, and always
acted nobly. On Tuesday, the 1st of July, he
fell gloriously, after the battle of Malverne Hill, fighting
for the independence of his country. Peaco to
