(commonly called Ben Shannon); brown complected,
about 24 years old, 5 leet 7 or 8 inches lugli, will
weigh about 100 lbs., answers quick when spoken to.
Ho was purchased of Thomas E. Shannon, of Camden,
and is probably lurking about that place, or about C.
J. Shannou's plantation, or in Sumter District, or it
may be that he is about the plantations on the west
side of tho Watcree river.
The above reward will be paid for his apprehension
and conlinement in jail so that I cm get him.

'THIE SHERIFFS OF EDGEFIELD, LEXington
and Sumter, or of any other District,
together with their deputies, are hereby
directed to apprehend and arrest any men from
the Nineteenth Regiment South Carolina Volunteers,
(commanded by Col. Lythgoe,) who
may be found in the country without furloughs
properly signed.
They arc to be considered as deserters, and
can be lodged in jail or delivered to any officer
of that Regiment, or to Brigadier-General Ripley,
Confederate General commanding at
Charleston.

of a Town Ordinance, relative to slaves, passed June
4, 1834, be published in the Camden Confederate, and
the same enforced from and after publication of this
notice:
Section 2. Slaves shall not occupy any house, outhouso
or kitchen, not connected with anil under the
supervision of some white person. Penally?Such slavo
shall bo committed to jail until discharged Bby the
owner, at his cost. Passed Juno 1, 1831. "

Whereas, after a trial of three months, it is
ascertained that the onerous daily dutios
required of the Secretary of the Executive
Council car.not be performed with promptness,
punctuality and despatch by one already
charged with engrossing duties of Special Private
Secretary to the Governor; therefore,
Resolved, That Colonel F.J. Moses, Jr., Special
Private Secretary of the Governor, be excused
from farther duty as Secretary of the
Executive Council, and be remtttod to the duties
of his original office, a9 contemplated by
the Legislature when his salary was fixed by

Resolved, That Colonel Moses be instructed
to deliver the minutes of the proceedings of
the Governor and Council, and all papers filed
or in his possession appertaining to them, to
B. F. Arthur, Esq., who is hereby appointed
Secretary of the Governor and Coiincil. upon
condition that the Governor and Council shall
tiot undertake to provide compensation for him
out of the public treasury.

"engrossing duties" of my office as "Special
Private Secretary to His Excellency the Governor,"
to transfer to another the "onerous daily
duties" required of a secretary of your body.
