The undersigned having been appoiutod Receiver by the Hon. A. G. Magrath for the Districts of Fairfield, Kershaw and Sumter, would most respectfull}' announce to the citizens of tho respective districts, that lie is now prepared to discharge tho duties that devolvo upon him by virtuo of said cilice. I have no doubt that instances may arise where tho duties projicrly discharged ma}' be disagreeable to the parties interested, but relying upon tho patriotism and lo}'alty of our citizcus for their assistance in defending tho provisions of the law, I shall expect such assistance to be checrfull}r tendered, and in all cases that may arise, 3Ticld ever}' consideration in my power, tho nature of the case may admit of, to such persons ns ma}' he affected by its operation; in tho mean time I shall endeavor to do my duty to the full extent and letter of the law. and abido tho ronsnnnon.^u fl.? Resolved, that the governor, in the event of the invasion of the State, or if, in his judgment, tho State should ho in imminent danger of invasion before the next meeting of this Ccnerul Assembly, he authorized to call for companies of volun- j teers. and organize them into battalions and regiments, in such manner as in his judgment may be most expedient for the defcnco of the State.?Jlesvlutions of the lust General Assembly. STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, j Headquarters, November 11, 18G1. { Under the abovo resolutions I will receive companies of infantry, with 70 men, at tho Fair Grounds in Columbia, and form them into battalions and Regiments immediately: Provided, they eomo with arms, such as they can procure, fit for active service, (as I can promise no arms,) and supplied with four day's provisions. None need present themselves unless they iiave arms. They will bo ordered to report for duty to tho Confederate General commanding at or near Charleston, and will be considered as eidistcd for sjiecial service, as a reserve, for tho defence of the Stale. Although they may be received into Confederate service, yet it will bo under a special act, passed August 21. 18G1, entitled "an act to provide for local defence and special service." In the present emergency it is hoped that cvorj' man will do his duty and act immediately. Col. F. W. MeMaster will be assigned the duty of receiving these companies and organizing them at the Fair Grounds. All companies ready to march for this rendezvous will immediately notify him ut Columbia. F.
