7 y \ UrNCOLNISM IN A KENTUCKY I'ULPIT. TllC lev. II. A. M. Henderson, o( Ala., who has been passing some time in Kentucky, writes a letter V> the N. O. Christian Advocate, from which we make the following extract. To give you the animus of the Northern Methodist Church in Kentucky, allow me to tell your readers about one llcv. (?) Mr. Black, stationed in Newport, opposite Cincinnati. On one Sabbath he had his Church ornamented with U. S. flags and brass eagles; his byms w$re tho "Star Spangled Banner," "The Red, "White and Blue," and llail Columbia." lie prayed that the Union may be preserved, "even though blood inav coinn out. r?f t.ho wino nross even unto the liorses bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs." Ih the course of his sermon lie said, "I trust our troops will rally and wipe out the disgrace of Mauas' sas, though it cost the life of every rebel under arms. Let Davis and Beauregard be captured to meet tho fate of Hamann. Jiang them up on Masons and Dixon's Line, that traitors of both sections may be warned. Let them hang until the vultures shall cat their rotten flesh from their bones; let them hang until the crows shall build their filthy nests in their skeletons; let them hang until the rope rots, and then let their discmbcred bones fall so deep into the earth that God Almighty curit fud them .in the day of Resurrection. lloRiuiiLE Outrages uy the Yankees in Anderson County, Ky.?The Louisville (Bowling Green) Courier, of the 1st, says: In Anderson cnuntv, we are informed, the Federals are eommittinor snrh oyppsros n<i hnvp o ww " * * " never been witnessed in this State since the savages were driven from its borders. Arson, robbery, plunder, violence, every species of lawlessness is perpetrated by them. The other day the house of Capt. Uttcrback was burned by tlicm. A young gentleman named Thompson was tied to a tree, and whipped terribly, when his persecutors left him, bleeding, suffering, and helpless, to perish, as lie would have done but for the timely assistance of a gentleman who accidentally found him. Stock is driven off, granaries emptied, hay and wheat yfcacks burned, and a fine bridge across one ^ of the leading turnpike roads was burned the other day in pure wantonness. This is a fair specimen of Lincolnism in Kentucky. The use of narcotics appears to be universal. Siberia has its fungus; Turkey, India and China their opium; Persia, India and Turkey, with all Africa, from Moroco to the Cape of Good Hope, and even the Indians of Brazil, have I their hemp and haschish; India, China, and v the .Eastern Archipelago, llicir betel nuts and r betel pepper; the Polynecian Islands their daily ava; Peru and Bolivia their long-used cocoa; New Grenada and the Himalayas their red and common thorn-apples, Asia and America?all the world, indeed?their tobacco; the Florida Indians their holly; northern Europe and America their ledums and sweet gale; the Englishman and German their hop; and the Frenchman his lettuce. The New York Herald, of the 23d October, says: It is now placed beyond doubt that the rebels have complete control of the lower Potomac. ,/~v i? n - i - xAsiuiiiauuci vravuu, who aiTlVCU 111 tllC Hag ahip Harict Lane at Washington ycstorday, reports that a number of vessels bound down have been stopped, and arc lying to under the protection of the llotilla at Indian Head, and that the Frcborn and Island Belle had thrown scv- j oral shells on monday into the rebel rendezvous at Mathias Point, which answered by the un- j * -.king of a battery of eighteen guns, which COldy returned the fire, and completely comcvcdcd the liver at that point. yrr.* ... 'ay no Fioiit.?The Cincinnati Times I ^complains grievously that many of the Ohio soldietgfiw Western Virginia arc now almost naked,1 arc^ suffering greatly from the weather, ( and have ilevcr received a dollar from the Federal (government. The Times very signi- j ficantly indicates to the powers that be, that J the men will not fight unless they arc paid. - Has it never Olmrrcd to the Times that hireling troops, ,io matter how well paid, can never cont^V successfully against men who fight for tl^.r boines, their firesides, and their families, ainl not foi pay ? Id answer to tho numorous enquiries which have been made by the different 14 Aid Socictios which havo been recently formod throughout tho State, I have been intruded by hi9 Excellency Gov. Piokens, to give tho following information. Depots will bo established by tho Quartermaster /-i i 1 --a *tt ? ? " ? ucnurai, uoiu in unurieston ana Columbia, lor tho reception of all donations of clothing ; and ho is also charged with the duty of forwarding and distributing tho same. * The " Department" will receivo all donations of clothing, say frock coats and pantaloons, of heavy worsted goods, shirts and drawers, of heavy homespun or flannel, wool, or heavy cotton socks, blankets new or second hand, also heavy shoes. Tho plan upon which the State designs supplying her soldiers with all necessary clothing, is based upon their willingness to surrender to tho State the amount of money appropriated by tho Confederate Government for this purpose, say forty-two ($12) per annum* this sum not now being sullicient in consequence of the greatly advanced cost of material. It is in view of this fact that theso laudablo "Associations" of ladies and gentlemen, are cordially welcomed as coadjutors in this noblo work, and In proportion to their voluntary contributions of labor and materials, will tho absolute cost of clothing for our gallant volunteers bo reduced. In tho event that any of tho " Associations" should not feel themselves able to furnish both material and labor, the Quartermaster General is instructed by hi Kxcclleney the Governor, to rc-iiuburso such Associations the cost of all materials, at a rate not exceeding similar materials purchased by tno " Department and tho quantity allowed for each garment shall be the same as used in our Manufacturing Bureau. Societies arc particularly requested to adviso the Quartermaster General of ilm nimtitiiw ?r ? 1" J " can do per week, and tho amount ol* donations they will probably send.
