Now this seems a little thing, and
what any child might say, bat I never

jthis, Ton know, my little friends,

Now, this is a beautiful and lovely

your parents. And sat^tlie day for
any child, when it begins to hoed tho
counsel or walk in tho footsteps of
companions who have thrown off the
rule of parents. Such child is in
great danger of being ruined for time
and eternity. But wise and important
as it is for children to love and
trust their parents, yet this should be
but tho starting point to a higher lovo
and confidence. If we believe in our
earthly father and mother, and feel
safe when led by them, when our
hand is in theirs, let us seek to
cherish the Baine feelings and affecLions
towards him of whom it is said,
"When my fathor and my mother
forsake me then will tho Lord take
me up," and wo shall be still safer.
Not only our bodies are secure in our
heavenly Father's hand, but our
souls. The words, " hole my han," on
Lho part of a little child, ar? an expression
of faith in the kindness and
protection of its parent. It expresses
also a sense of nearness. It says, " I
know while you hold ray hand you
must be near me, and I feel safe when
my father or my mother is by."
Now, will not ray little frionds look
up to the great Father in heaven, who
jo tenderly loves them, and ask him,
in true and loving trust, to "hole their
bans."
You should early learn to feel tho
need of a strong hand to protect and
ijuide you safely on through life. And
ii yon, Dy lailb, cry, "Aly Father
t^jon ar,t the guide of my youth,"
ivill lead you all the journey through
' so that your footsteps slip not."
The little child, in the dark room,
with its hand in its parent's, sweetly
iiuks to slumber, because it then fears
nothing. But -with still greater
security may you lay yourself down
in peace and sleep, when by faith you
lay bold of the hand of Jesus, and
feel that he only makes you to cwcll
in safety. Learn, my dear childreto,
lot only to repeat the words, but to
mter into the snirit of that beWiitifnl
lymn of \Y oslcy'a?
" Father I stretch my hands to thee,"

Perseverance in Peayer.?The

)thers, or from -which, it may be
liverted by some toy. Bat if its
sries oontinae, and I find that nothing
)ut my presence will pacify it, I leave
everything and go to it. So when
.he children of God begin to cry "for
lis presence, he does not answer tbeto
